Your experience can be a combination of many different types of jobs and roles you have had in the past. The chart below shows the different types of experience that you may have, or want to get. Below the chart are tips for getting more experience in the U.S.
Tips for Getting More Experience in the U.S.
If you don't need a paid job right away but want to get experience and practice English, you could volunteer. Volunteering is a great way to get more experience and make connections. Try to find a volunteer role in the field in which you'd like to work. For example, if you want to work at FCPS, you could volunteer at a local school. Or, if you want to work at Inova hospitals, you could volunteer there.
If you need to learn more English before you can get the same kind of job you had in your home country, you could get a part-time or entry-level job in a similar career field to help you practice. For example, if you want to be a teacher, you could start as a School Monitor.
Apprenticeships are a great way to get paid training that can lead to a job. FCPS ACE has an apprenticeship program - click here to go to the website.
