Membership

How This Works

  • You pay an annual membership fee of £15.

  • Then join in as many, or as few, of the 45 or so activities on offer as you want.

  • The only additional costs are for your own refreshments and the expenses of things you choose to get involved in, such as room hire or transport.

  • There are also some special outings and events, monthly newsy emails or printed newsletter and a monthly lecture meeting.

Getting to Know Us - More Detail

The University of the Third Age (U3A) movement is a unique and exciting organisation which provides opportunities for retired and semi-retired people to come together to enjoy good company and to learn together, not for qualifications, but for its own reward.

We have have over 40 activity groups: some meet once a week, some fortnightly, some once a month. We also hold more general monthly meetings for all members.

Our subscription for 2021/22 is £15 for the year. This includes our affiliation costs to the Third Age Trust for their admin, insurance etc along with running expenses for our U3A. Members may also be asked to contribute a small amount at each meeting to cover the costs of hiring the meeting room at their venue, usually between £1 and £2.

You will also receive automatically our monthly Newsletter (by email if we have your address), our twice-yearly Magazine and, from the Third Age Trust, a magazine "Third Age Matters". (You can opt out of receiving any or all of these by letting the Membership Secretary know ).

You are very welcome to come along to a Monthly General Meeting when there is a talk followed by refreshments. These meetings are held in the Masonic Hall in Guildford Crescent on the second Tuesday of the month at 2:00pm. and give new and potential members chance to get together with a couple of the committee members so they can find out more about U3A. Details of the Speakers are on the web site and for a first attendance there is no charge. [Currently these are held via Zoom]

You are also welcome to try a couple of taster sessions of our activity groups meetings without having to join Cardiff U3A. Details of the groups are on the web site but please contact the Group leader before going to their meeting to let them know to expect you. You may be charged a small fee at some groups to cover the session costs.
