Situations Vacant

Helping us to help members – to give them with a wider range of activities and services

Want to Get Involved or Help Out?

This page contains details of volunteer posts within Cardiff U3A which are either currently vacant or will become so at the next Annual General Meeting.

Some posts are Officers as defined in the Constitution of the Cardiff U3A and the holder takes a place on the Executive Committee whilst others are posts the Committee has found to be useful additions to the formal Officer posts and may not necessarily be committee posts.

Volunteers Needed for the Committee's Communication Activities

We need volunteers to help deliver these services to Members:

· ensuring that communications within Cardiff U3A are effective and timely

· ensuring that members without email access are kept informed to the same extent as members with email access

· ensuring that externally facing media applications are up-to-date and relevant

The Communications Officer, Owen Parry, will lead you in your involvement in these activities:-

  • Administering the Beacon Administration System: being the first-line support for technical issues (including secure and appropriate access) and assisting members and convenors to use the system appropriately (e.g. the Member’s Portal, Membership renewal, demonstrations and training).

  • Editing the Website: being responsible for the Cardiff U3A website and providing support to members and convenors to place content on the site appropriately.

  • Maintaining our Social Media presence (Facebook and Twitter)

  • Paper Advocate: ensuring that materials provided to Cardiff U3A members in electronic format are also made available to members who cannot or choose not to use email or the Internet.

What you do will include some reporting to the Committee monthly: overall, it will take up only a few hours each month.

Some knowledge and experience of similar activities will be useful.

Contact: if you are interested, please contact Owen directly at beacon@cardiffu3a.org.uk

or any other Committee Member you may know (all contact details on the Website and in the Magazine at page 9)

the Convenor of any of the Groups you belong to.

What next? As and when you are ready, we will invite you to attend a monthly Committee meeting.

Then you can, without obligation, observe what goes on and ask any questions you have. This way we will be able to see whether what’s involved suits both parties.

Where there’s agreement about joining, the respective Committee Member will become the volunteer’s personal supporter.

Volunteers Needed for the Committee's Relationship with other u3as in South Wales

Our South Wales Network Representative currently is Tony Baines but, as he is also the Chair of the Executive Committee, we need a volunteer to be the Committee’s Network Representative: in particular, this will mean communicating with other u3a organisations on our behalf - as described at pages 21-23 in the 2022 Magazine. Support with this will be given by Tony.

There will be some attendance at periodic Meetings: our Executive Committee and the South Wales Network each meet once a Month. You will act between those Meetings to represent and report what each party is doing at the time - about activities with members and groups and, at times, about wider things like how we have dealt with responses during the Pandemic.

The communications you will be involved with will be in different forms: emailing and talking (Zoom, face-to-face and hybrid). The Network’s website is at https://u3asites.org.uk/walesu3a/page/10321.

What you do will include some reporting to the Committee monthly: overall, it will take up only a few hours each month.

Reasonable confidence with emailing, online searching and attending meetings will be useful.

Contact: if you are interested, please contact Tony directly at chair@cardiffu3a.org.uk or any other Committee Member you may know (all contact details on the Website and in the Magazine on page 9) or the Convenor of any of the Groups you belong to.
