This Privacy Policy explains how Captionly ("we", "us", "our") handles information when you use the Captionly: AI Subtitle Maker iOS app.
Short version: We don't collect your personal data. Your videos and captions stay on your device.
Information We Do Not Collect
Captionly does NOT collect, store, sell, or share any of the following: your name, email address, or contact information; your location; your videos, audio recordings, or any media files; your captions or project files; usage analytics, crash reports, or behavioral data; device identifiers or advertising IDs; cookies or tracking technology.
How Your Data Is Processed
On-Device Storage. All of your projects, captions, custom font uploads, and edits are stored locally on your device inside the app's sandbox. We have no access to this data.
Speech Recognition (Apple). Captionly uses Apple's built-in Speech Recognition framework to transcribe the audio in videos you choose to caption. Depending on your device and network conditions, audio data may be sent to Apple's servers for processing under Apple's privacy practices. Apple is the processor of this data, not us. Subscription Purchases (Apple StoreKit). Captionly Pro subscriptions are sold and processed by Apple through StoreKit and the App Store. Apple handles payment, billing, and refunds. We receive only an anonymized receipt from Apple confirming your subscription is active no payment details, no email, no name.
You can manage or cancel your subscription anytime in iPhone Settings Apple ID Subscriptions.
Permissions the App Requests
When you use Captionly, iOS will prompt you to grant the following permissions:
Photo Library to import videos you select for captioning. We only access videos you explicitly pick.
Speech Recognition to convert speech in your videos to captions.
Microphone required by the Speech Recognition framework. We do not record live audio.
You can revoke these permissions anytime in iPhone Settings Captionly.
Third Parties
We do not integrate any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. The only external services involved are Apple's own frameworks (Speech, StoreKit, Photos), and they operate under Apple's policies.
Children's Privacy
Captionly is rated 4+ but is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any data from any user.
International Users
Because we do not collect personal data, no data is transferred between countries by us. Apple may transfer audio data for speech recognition per Apple's own policies.
Your Rights
Because we do not store any personal data, there is no personal data for us to delete, export, or correct. To remove all locally-stored project data, simply delete the app from your device.
Changes to This Policy
If we update this policy, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top. Material changes will be announced inside the app.
