Final Presentation Guidelines
++Timeline:
Weeks 8 and 9: practice presentations (5 percent of overall class grade). Graduating seniors will practice-present week 8, non-grads week 9.
Weeks 10 and 11: final presentations (20 percent of overall class grade). Graduating seniors will present week 10, non-grads week 11.
++Length: 10 minutes (11/6/2018 note: cut from 12 minutes to accommodate graduating students week 10)
++Multimedia: Every major point must be accompanied by a media element--photos, charts, video clips, etc. Whatever--choose what you think works best with your material.
++Approach: aim to tell us the story of your story. In other words, just lead us through the project, step by step. Don't just read your essay, word for word.
++Suggested structure:
Introduction of research project. Make your intro snappy. Think "story." How best to grab our attention?
Discussion of project findings/analysis. Also make sure to give us enough history of your topic so we can understand what you're talking about.
Conclusion with discussion of future directions/possibilities, etc.
In other words, this isn't so different from your essay. It just takes a different form.
++Style:
You'll need to master the material. Don’t just read straight from slides or a printout, stumbling over unfamiliar names.
Make it engaging. Make it fun. Make it compelling.
