Unit 1- Maps and Globes

Unit Objectives:  

Students will learn about geographic tools, physical and political features, and types of maps. 

We will work through our county's social studies curriculum, 'Gallopade" this year.  This is a workbook that has information to read and questions to answer that address our standards.  We will also be doing some supplemental activities that will reinforce those standards.  

Your child will receive a study guide (on colored paper) to study for each test.  Tests are typically every 2-3 weeks.  Using the study guide and spending time each day reviewing is very beneficial to your child's success on the chapter tests.  Social Studies tests will also be given open book- this will foster our ELA standards of reading and locating information in non-fiction text.  As we cover the material, students will be highlighting to "take notes" and identify the most important information for their test.
