In August 2023 my partner and I decided on a whim to purchase a narrow boat. It cost me my classic car as a part-exchange, and my partner a dunk in the canal.

We wanted to travel around the canal network and return every 10 to 14 days, but this would mean leaving the boat on an unsecured mooring for a few days at a time. 

Talking with friends and scouring forums it seemed I wasn't the first to worry about fuel theft or tampering, and others' solutions of drilling or welding close to the fuel tank weren't something I wanted to risk.

Along with my neighbour Gary, we designed and produced a simple prototype, but accidentally made a few too many.  Rather than stick them in a cupboard to be forgotten, we figured we might as well see if anybody wanted one on Facebook Marketplace.

The prototypes ended up being very popular and we were inundated with requests for more, and as a result we have refined our original model to the current design and are trying to make them more widely available.

Caplock UK is designed and manufactured here in the UK, and we operate on narrow profit margins to support local businesses and keep the lock affordable.
