Hello,
I am a second cousin from the Leonard family. My Uncle Thomas had a son John ‘Jack’ Leonard, who married Lois Capecchi.
I have a very large family tree at Ancestry.com, and have included as much information that I can find on the web. The tree is Finkle Family, but you simply need to type in Lois Capecchi or John Leonard and you will find a link.
I would be very happy to be introduced to the children of John Leonard, as they probably don’t know that I exist. There were several brothers and sisters of Thomas Leonard, and some of them had children….in New York.
I moved from New York in 2005 to live in Virginia near my daughter (and subsequent grandsons…).
This is a very nice web site and I enjoyed reading the e-mails that you have since 1998.
Look forward to hearing from one of you. My personal e-mail address is: colonel.jim@gmail.com
Thank you.
Your distant cousin,
Jim

Hello everybody,
I am Marina Capecchi and I live in Rome. My father Sesto Capecchi was born in Rome but all the family belongs to Tuscany area Pontedera near Pisa.
I know that certainly one of my father's cousin Giancarlo lives in Venezuela (Caracas), as my father have always talked about him and how they were very fond each other when they were little children.
I don't know if we have a close relatives also in the United States, I am not sure about it, anyway I would be glad to know how it is small the world!
These days I knew from the media that dr. Mario Capecchi received the Nobel prize for Medecine. I am very happy to know these news and this for two different reasons: the first one is because of his success represents a reason to be proud of, even if I don't know him personally ; the second one is related to a personal experience, as Mario was also the surname of my first brother who died just after his birth.
I noticed you used to meet once a year and if you decide to do something on line please, contact me.
I have a little child Sophie Marie who is nearly 20 months. I would like to know more information about the family in the U.S.A. and I will read your site regularly in order to be informed.
Now, I send you my warmest regards and I hope to meet you one day.

I am researching my family. My father's mother and father came from Pistoia, Italy around the turn of the century. My grandmother's maiden name was Dolfi, first name Assunta. She had a sister by the name of Angiolino. Angiolino married a man by the name of Capecchi. I believe his first name was Roffaello (not sure of the exact spelling as writing is difficult to read). I wondered if perhaps this might be a relative of yours. I am not sure of their ages but my dad's parents where born in 1880-1889. My name is Beverly Gilson and my e-mail is bevnurse@midmich.net.
Hello. My name is Daniela Battaglini in Broderick. My grandfather, Mario Battaglini, was a friend of your grandfather, and he also lived in St. Paul and worked as a sculpturer for the same company. I understand that my brother Andrea has already spoken to you. I am enjoying reading your web site. I would love to do something like it to honor my grandfather and his wonderful life.
Thank you for sharing this valuable information with us.
I live in Southern California, and love family history very much. Do you know where the sculptures they carved ended up? I would love to see them!
Take care,
Daniela Battaglini Broderick

I have to precise that in my first letter I sent you there is a mistake. In fact I say to you that Capecchi people reached Tuscany in the year 1040. This is not correct. In fact , as I say to you in my last e-mail , they reached Tuscany during the time of King Manfredi , that is , probably , during the years from 1250 to 1260.
Certainly some of Capecchi people were present in the Battle of Montaperti , victoriously fighted in the year 1260 , near Siena near Arbia river, at side of King Manfredi(Ghibellines) against the city of Florence (Ghuelph).
See notices , if you are interested , in Internet "the battle of Montaperti" or

Many compliments for your website of Capecchi family.
J am not very expert of internet and e-mail, and so , j have decided to send you one letter. J read the history of Joseph A. Capecchi , emigrated from Florence to USA during the year 1906 , but j want to inform you that j believe that the family he derives from were living, before
Florence, in the city of Pi stoia. '
In fact in Pistoia are living the most high number of Capecchi families, both of Tuscany and in Italy, and also in Pistoia , particularly near my house on the south (4 Ian.) near Piuvica, Bottegone etc , and all the others families living outside Pistoia are surely native of Pi stoia area.
J believe that when the Capecchi ( or Capece) people, from the south of Italy, reached
Tuscany, (about 1040 year), the location were Pistoia.
J ignore if you know the ancient history of our family, whom origin is descendent of the
Normans of Sicily. ( in the araldic bearing there is the goldi10n )
J have not many important notices, bat if you are interested j send you what j have in next
letter.
Above all , j have to inform you that j am very happy for your initiative, and hope to receive
your reply. For the occasion, many wishes to you and your family and relatives.
With may kindest regards.

Hello Joseph.
You do not know me. Let me first introduce myself.
My name is Emanuel Jose Capechi de Pinho, I am brazilian. I was just searching through internet to find something about the
Capecchi family (I actually did not hope to find many things...:) ) when I found your site.
I am very curious to check some info about your family and mine...At first, as you might have noticed my Capecchi is diferent
from yours, there is one c missing. This is actually just a mistake in my mothers documentation. My other relatives are "true"
Capecchi's.
The main point is that in Tom Leonard's history at the end of the page he writes the name of a Giusseppe Capecchi, whose
born, death and procedence are not well known. This member, as I read, is not part of the ancestry or decendence of Joseph
Capecchi (correct me if I am wrong). I guess you have heard something about him and you don't know exactly who he is.
Well, my grandfather was called Guiseppe Capecchi, and he was from an Italian province called Bragnova, or something like
that, near Rome. He was born in september, 15th, 1906 and died march, 11, 1978. I dont know if we are really the same
family, but here in Brazil, as far as we have checked, all Capecchi's are relatives, and descendents of Gaetano Capecchi, the
father of Guiseppe.
I dont want to make it too long, so I will stop here.
I am waiting for your answer.

Hi, I'm Gabriella Capecchi, from Florence, Aldo's daughter and Guido's grandaughter.
I didn't know too much about my family and this could be the right occasion. I know only that Guido
was a railman , he lived around Italy and for this my dad was born in Torino del Sangro
(L'Aquila-Abruzzo). My father Aldo, born 1898 and died 1973, got a cousin named Washington,
quite a strange name in Italy, lived in Montelupo Fiorentino. Galileo and Alfredo Capecchi, my
uncles, were older than my dad.
I was born in 1939 and I always lived in Florence. At this point I have, as relative, only a cousin
named Ennio Capecchi, Galileo's son, born in Florence in 1928, living in Rome and I'm going to visit
him after forty years. He lived abroad in various countries, he is now a retired general from the italian
Air Force and for that we lost contacts. I'll try to know more about my family speaking with him.
I got two sons Lapo, 1963, and Matteo, 1972. The first is a photojournalist, specialised in tourism,
and he has his own site at http://lapobag.firenze.net He visited more than sixty countries in the
world and studied in USD University of San Diego for his thesis about animal's rights. In the Usa he
was also in Massachussetts, New York, Washington, Florida, Arkansas, Utah, Nevada, but he
never was in Minnesota. Even Matteo worked abroad in tourism in various clubs in Europe and
Africa. One year ago he had, with Angela, a child named Gianmaria.
I would like to say "Happy New Year" to all the descendants of Capecchi's family everywhere.

I don't know if you got my previous mail, I was using a public machine, that
is why I think that you haven't.
Hi
My name is Enrique Capecchi, I live in Venezuela, I was surfing the net two
years ago and found out that there were many Capecchi in Minnesota, I called
one, (maybe you)and he treated me really nice and was very polite as well,
he was kind to let me know that his Grand Father came from Florence, Italy
and was an sculptor.
My Grand Father's name was Francois, he came from Corsica, France when he
was 17, two uncles where with him, he moved to the eastern part of Venezuela
and started to work in an American Oil Company (Esso) he married my Grand
Mother, her name was Agueda Bianchi, she was born in Venezuela but her Dad
was from Corsica. They had five children, Oswaldo, Graciosa, Enrique (my
Dad), Gisela, and Francisco.
Oswaldo had two children Oswaldo jr. and Belinda both in their late 40's
now. Graciosa did not have children but she is so children loving that she
adopted a girl from the Andes and now lives in Florida, (I visited them 3
moths ago and they are fine), My Dad had 5 children, Enrique (me) Maria
Auxiliadora, Mercedes Elena (Tolena), Diego, and Luis Eduardo (Luigi)
My aunt Gisela never married and died 3 years ago and my uncle Frank had 3
children, Diana Elena, Francois, and Fernando.
My uncle Oswaldo went to Corsica last year and met all our relatives, they
were great with him and he was lucky enough to get some picture of my Grand
Father when he was a child. We are filling up genealogical tree for them so
they can complete a main one. they were so nice in Corsica that when my
uncle talks about them his eyes water.
My Dad is 70 years old and in good health, he was a top athlete in his
youth, he went to the States in 1959 for the Panamerican Games and won the
two games he pitched there. Venezuela won the Gold Medal in Baseball that
year. Still the only one in Baseball in Panamerican Games.
Me? I am 40 years old and I married a girl whose parents are from Spain, I
have 2 1/2 years old twin girls that I named Michelle and Nicole.
I visited your web page today, it is very nice.
I will let you know more of my family if you want. I don't want to make it
too long so you don't get bored.
I do think that we are related in a way because Corsica was an Italy
Province until they lost it to France during war, but I read that people
there want to go back to being an Italian Island.
Please forgive my English
Regards
Enrique Capecchi

Dante's Inferno

Mon, 1 May 2000 20:31:01 +0200
Hi Joe,
Sure I can!
Please find herewith attached the relevant part of the Inferno (Canto XXIX), where a certain "Capocchio"
(but his real name could be intentionally modified by Dante) was mentioned.
These are the lines which refer to Capocchio (you may find them at the end of the Canto, marked with bold
letters):
"... sì vedrai ch'io son l'ombra di Capocchio,
che falsai li metalli con l'alchìmia..."
In English, they could be translated as follows:
"... you will see that I am the spirit of Capocchio,
who forged metals, by means of the alchemy...".
As reported by an anonymous Inferno's expounder, this brave man was burnt alive in Siena, on 1293,
probably because of his "profession".
These should have been bad times for our family...
Plese let me know, if you should hear from someone coming from the same town of my granfather (i.e.:
Abbadia S. Salvatore, Siena, Tuscany).
With best regards,
Gabriele

my name is Gabriele Capecchi and my family came from Tuscany. I was born in Sicily
and I live in Milan (Italy).
My granpa was born in Abbadia S. Salvadore, a little town near Siena. His name was
Fedele and his father was Carlo Capecchi.
I do not know very much about my roots. I just remember that a brother of Carlo was
a missionar in Cina, at the beginning of the last century (1900!).
By the way, does everyone know that an our ancestor was mentioned in the Dante's
Inferno?
I would appreciate to be in touch with you.

Hi Capecchi family: Since I am a tour guide at the
Cathedral of St. Paul, I was very interested in reading
the interview of Joseph Capecchi about his company and
families involvement in decorating the Cathedral. So many
different stories are told; I am always interested in
information that is first hand so it can be both accurate
and interesting to the visitor or anyone eager to learn.
I especially love showing the cathedral to children and
families, and helping them make it important and
relevant to their own faith lives. You must be so happy

Thanks for your wonderful leadership in faith in so
many ways. Susan Strebig

Dear Dr. Capecchi,
Thanks for your quick reply to my message! I certainly do not
mind if you put my letter and my e-mail address in the Family News
section of your web page. I would welcome mail from any of the
Capecchis.
My husband is always searching for connections for other
Carrs. Unlike the Capecchi's, there are millions of them. As he
scrolled down the screen he ran across your webpage and promptly
called it to my attention. Of course, I was interested. We may have
lived next door to one another, but kids do not exchange information
about their parents' origins. We were more interested in assembling
a bunch of kids of both sexes so that we could have a softball game.
Where did we play? The entire block between Jefferson and Berkeley,
extending for half of the distance between Fairview and Prior was
empty because at one time the school board had envisioned a school
being built there. When they changed their minds, the houses came,
but until then we had a grand old time. Oftentimes the game could
not begin until Bernice showed up. The Guilianis played ball, and
they had extras. Bernice could get her hands on a ball. This was
important in the 1930's!
I also want to tell you one of the things I remember about
your father. My father and your father, though they belonged to
different generations, shared a common background serving in the
South Pacific during WWII. Veterans of WWII very seldom spoke of
their combat experiences, but these two must have talked to one
another, for I remember my father coming into the house shaking his
head and saying, "Joe Capecchi just told me he landed on ----- (I
don't remember the island) ---- . The fighting was so terrible he
says he had to cut his shoes off his feet after thirty days of not
taking them off!"
Your dad must have been a brave man, as those landings were pretty
awful.
My father was the Army liason man with a troop carrier. They
also participated in some of the landings. During the landings all
the lights were turned on, and of course, they made big, impressive
targets. I think our two fathers shared their backgrounds with one
another, though my father never had much to say about his part.
I'm glad that you remember him so kindly. He did love the kids.
He had was a railway mail clerk who travelled on the mail train
that ran to Chicago every day. The runs were more than eight hours,
so he often had a day or two off. In the summertime when it was hot
(and there was no airconditioning),
I would lurk around him until he gave in and took the whole crew of
about six little girls swimming. On the way home we would roll all
the car windows down and hang out waving our towels to get dry. It
didn't seem to ruffle his dignity, and we all felt better being
cooled off. Mothers must have loved having us all gone for an hour
or two!
I suspect you practice in St. Paul and hope that things are
going well despite the HMO's and the revolution in medical practice
payments and treatment.
Sincerely, Betty Westman Carr

Hi! This is Christina- Paul L. Capecchi's second oldest grandchild. I'm 16 years
old and love sports, especially soccer and softball (play both for school and summer
leagues). I'm a junior at Visitation and I'm a member of my school's choir and orchestra

(not a bad deal). I'm not the youngest Capecchi driver in our family though; my brother,

My name is Betty Westman Carr. My family lived next door to the
Capecchis at 1827 Juliet in St. Paul for many, many years. We moved
in in 1932 and I left when I got married in 1945 but my parents lived
there for many more years. I knew all the Capecchi children,
Florence, Joe, Bernice, Lois, and Paul.
I was a contemporary of Bernice and would like to know where
she is living now.
My husband is a retired professor from the U of Mn medical
school and he remembers having a student named Joe Capecchi. I
recall that "Joe" was a favorite name of the grandchildren, and
wonder which Capecchi was the father of the one who posted this
website. Are you "Joe III", the son of Joe II?
Give my best wishes to all the surviving Capecchis, including
Pauline, Joe II's wife. I recall that she was quite a wonder,
taking care of everyone. I marveled at her ability to deal with a
big family and take care of Joe and Louise as well..
My husband and I live in Orlando in the winter and Richfield,
Mn. in the summer. I would love to hear about all of you. Please
answer. Sincerely, Betty Carr

Joe,
sorry to bother you but I am another Capecchi from across the world,
Scotland to be precise. I am 16 years old and it was actually my dad's dad
that was Italian.
I am just interested to find out if yor family came from Tuscany or round abouts.
I would be so interested if you E-mailed me back, so please do even if you don't have a clue what I'm talking
about.
My E-mail address: WWW.Randol34@hotmail.com
I am new to this thing (E-mail addresses and all that) so I don't know if you
need to type in www. Joe, I thought you might like to add this picture to your link to the JJ
Hill Statue reference. The back of the picture says:
"JJ Hill Model for granite

Dear Joe
Nonno (Joseph A. Capecchi, born 1889) was the oldest of four children .
Brother Otello (born 1893) . His sister Bice (born in 1899),
Brother Mario (born ?) was the youngest sibling.
The family photograph showing Nonno's parents (Emilia & Luigi) sitting
taken in 1922 that you may have on the website that shows standing behind
the parents is Nonno's sister Bice, his brother Mario, Nonno, his
brother Otello, and Otello's wife Ida. Mario married later and his
wife's name was Lucia. ( Lucia is not in the picture.) His sister Bice
never married.
We have some other interesting photographs in the family album if you'd
like to come and look through them to see if there would be any other
pictures you might want to use.
Love, Uncle Paul & Aunt Elinor

Dear Joe,
Here are some family pics from our side of the family. I thought you
might like to include them in the family web page. I'm very impressed
with the progress you have made with the page. I will contact Lynda,
Paul and Larry and see if they have any pictures they would like to add
to it. Thanks again for taking on this project!

Hi Uncle Joe - it's me again! I thought of something else that I thought
might be cool for the page. Maybe you could put some pictures of Nonno's
paintings or busts on the page. Just an idea.
Oh yeah, I have a good picture of my family up at the lake (since my mother
apparantly hasn't given you one yet). I'll see if I can get it scanned
somewhere and email it to you. Ok!
Bye (again)!

Hi Uncle Joe! I love the web page! I've learned lots that I didn't know
about
the Capecchi family. One question - are you sure that the picture from the
4th
of July is in '83? Krista and Bob aren't in the picture. Just checking. Bye!

Hi Dr. Joe,
I'm Joanne (Erling) Roehl's daughter writing from San Diego. Mom and Grandma
(Florence) are visiting and we were trying to look up the Capecchi website for
Grandma. The URL we have doesn't work. Would you mind sending the URL to us
at DB4Chris@aol.com?
Mom and Grandma both say hi!

Hi Joe! Attached is a family picture of my family and a picture I
scanned of Mom and Dad's wedding. Nonno and Nonna are in it along
with Grandma and Grandpa Berger. I thought this would be a better
link to "Pauline Berger" - besides, I object to your description of
the picture! I've also attached a copy of the family history that
was written by one of the Leonards. I think the one document is
information that Uncle Paul had given them and they then used that to
write their paper. You can either use it as is or rewrite it tin a
more general way (the same with the family tree which is specific
for Uncle Paul but could be expanded to include Dad and all of the
aunts). Let me know what you think.

Jo,
I had about 2 years ago paid a geneologist to research our family
name,
and our family crest. I have since archived them in my garage, I have
photos of the Capecchi home town (Livorno) and photos of my relatives as
far back as 3 generations. I was in Italy about 2 months ago, and to my
surprise Capecchi is a common Tuscan surname, as isolated our names are in
the new worlds, the name is common in the old country. I will look into it
after the new year and email you with any new stuff.
Will keep in touch.

Dear Joe,
I was just looking at the Capecchi web site with my Dad today. I think
it's a great idea. Please double check the date that Nonno emigrated,
both Dad and I remember the year as being 1906. Do you have a scanner?
I think it would be neat to have pictures of Nonno and Nonna and many of
relatives on the site. I'm glad that one of us has started this project!
Have a happy new year, I'll put the site on my list of favorites and
check it out regularly. If you would like some help give me a call.

Hi Joe,
Saw your Web site. Should be fun and interesting. Dad left
Florence Italy,
September 10, 1906. My Nonna gave him a piece of paper with
the date
written on it. I still have it among other memorable things.
Happy New Year to All. Uncle Paul
