Our musicians are ready to be back on stage and share this childhood story with you! Come join us as the orchestra highlights the different instrument families of the orchestra, pairing them with the unique characters from the story!
Which character identifies with each instrument?
We can't wait to perform for our young audiences again this year!
Program:
"Meet the Instruments" Interactive Orchestra Family Demonstration
Peter & The Wolf" by Sergei Prokofiev
Theme: Which characters identify with which instruments? Can you learn to identify the different sounds?
Before we embark on the story - we will be joining the Cape Symphony Orchestra in an interactive "Meet the instruments" demonstration so we can become familiar with the characters and their identified instruments!
Every year, thousands of Cape Cod students ranging from K-6th grade fill the Barnstable Performing Arts Center with exuberance and eagerness to hear live orchestral music provided by the Cape Symphony.
Our Young People's Concerts are often a student's very first experience attending a live concert (let alone hearing a symphonic orchestra) and they always exit the hall singing, dancing, and high-fiving musicians on their way out!
This season's YPC will be based on Sergei Prokofiev's "Peter & The Wolf". First featured by Cape Symphony in 2019, the orchestra is bringing back this childhood classic to YPC to liven up the audience and enhance your classroom experience! The 27 minute orchestral suite of the beloved children's story will be narrated along with interactive playing and illustrations to make this an experience you don't want to miss!
Since our concerts are usually 45 minutes long, we will start the experience off with an interactive activity with the orchestra and introduce the different orchestra families right from the audience! Not only will your students learn about which instruments identify with the characters of the story, but they will be able to interact with our musicians in the process! This extended exposure to our instrument families, will fill the excitement in the room and prepare your students to follow along closely with the story in real time. Making musical connections that will be sure to making a lasting memorable impression for years to come!
Our goal is not only to Inspire Joy, but to inspire a love for music and the arts. These concerts are designed to create a memorable and positive (in most cases, first) experience with "classical" music and beyond.
We can't wait to see you and hope that it will inspire these students attend our full-length concerts during the regular concert season. Our hope is to inspire students to learn a new instrument, join their school music program, or just simply express a curiosity towards music.
Let's cultivate our next generation of Cape Symphony musicians - it starts here!
We could not be more excited to invite you back and continue to present our educational concerts to a live audience of students. Please contact us if you are interested in attending our upcoming Concert!
