Newly aquired 2nd Wind joins the Cape Dory 14, see the 2nd Wind tab
Cape Dory Owners Association is a great source for general info about the 14. The boats were based on a old design concept called a Whitehall Rowboat that was popular in an earlier times as small utility boats for use in the 1800's in New York Harbor. At the bottom there is more history info on the Whitehall. The Cape Dory's version of this boat came to two lengths, and 10 foot and 14 foot model. The 14 is the one here has a length of 14' 6" and displaces about 200 pounds empty. With the centerboard and rudder up its draft is about 6 inches. A sail area of 85 Sq Ft, or about what a Laser carries, provides adequate performance.

The history linked below was written below by Harold Aune and is from the website for the business concern of Whitehall Rowing and Sailing which I have nothing to do with. The history is common to the design of the Cape Dory 14.
