The CAPA and co-sponsors hold a successful career development lecture designed particularly for young professionals at Cultural Center of TECRO on 6/17. The lecture “Tips for Scientific Career Development” given by Dr. De-Maw Chuang, an eminent Academician of Academia Sinica in Taiwan with over 40-year research experience at the U.S. NIH, attracted more than 70 students, postdocs, and young professionals to learn the advice from a well-established scientist.
Dr. Chuang’s lecture provided suggestions in several areas including how to get oneself ready for a career, how to conduct innovative research and avoid scientific misconducts, how to write an acceptable research manuscript, how to write a fundable grant proposal, how to perform well in a job interview and make a correct choice of job offers, and how to advance one’s scientific career and maximize the chance of success. Dr. Chuang also designed situational questions and encouraged the audience to discuss. In the Q&A session, many postdocs and students asked varied questions they had faced in their career, and Dr. Chuang and several senior CAPA members also shared their suggestions and comments. The event lasted about two hours, and many attendees expressed their appreciation to Dr. Chuang and positive feedbacks to the CAPA.
