NASA prefers that we take photos using cellphones or tablets. Using these devices will allow CAP members to take and submit the photos directly to the GLOBE program servers using the app they are providing. This said, we recognize that some units will need or choose not to use the app/cell phones for this mission. To accommodate this, NASA will provide a data portal where teams can submit their observations after the fact. Teams that choose to use a DSLR camera to take contrail photos should plan on an additional 3 to 4 hours of data entry per observation date. This is because they must enter a lot of metadata with the photos that the app collects automatically. This metadata is information that NASA needs to pair the photos we take on the ground with the images and data that will be collected by GOES and NOAA-20 Earth-observing satellites that will be passing overhead.
