Due 2/6
Reflective Questions:
#1) What are the measurable things a new design would have to accomplish (in order of importance) to be seen as a real solution?
One thing a new design would have to accomplish in order to be recognized as a real-world solution would consist of an innovative way to prevent squirrel damage with the use of compound materials, similar to Cap-Cable's mission. Not only would compound materials efficiently repel squirrels with the use of spice, but the idea would stand out from other products.
#2) How did I/we determine each of these design requirements?
Taking animal safety & environmental protection into consideration, brainstorming physical components in relation to our product and thinking about products withstanding conditions collectively.
Include:
Intro paragraph on how design specifications, constraints, and parameters were determined.
Indicate who your primary stakeholders are (ex: users, buyers, sellers, manufacturers).
How you got input from these groups on design requirements and design goals. Also include your graphs and descriptions of what each graph is telling us.
Explicitly state that your list is in ordered by highest priority.
List design specifications.
Must be measurable and clear.
Since our product requires interaction between squirrels and chemical compounds (Capsaicin) on utility and power lines, specifications were determined through ethical and logical reasoning. On the ethical side, we decided animal safety and environmental impact were important to include. Without these two specifications, our product wouldn't be feasible. Logically, our product would need to withstand different conditions, including UV, rain, and wind. Other specifications were determined through features and functionalities compared to other products including how well the insulation is protected from rodents (specifically squirrels), product size, scalability, and size.
Users: Homeowners and the people of the city

List from highest to lowest priority. What is most important?
1: Insulation protection (Squirrels)
2: Animal Safety
3: Durability
A. Rain/Water resistance
B. UV resistance
C. Temperature resistance
D. Wind resistance
4: Implementation
5: Animal Safety
5: Environmental Impact
6: Life Cycle of Product
7: Scalability
8: Size
9: Availability of Components
10: User attractiveness
On the market, there are only a few methods of getting squirrels to stay away in a humane way. No one has approached a coating for a wire although there are other methods. By using the research from other groups we are able to implement a blend that will protect cables from being ruined. This is not only a product that has not been approached but also a humane method in order to preserve the squirrel population.
