Crogan’s Shooting

When you read the headline “ Walnut Creek Man Murdered” on the local news channel you assume it happened in some of the more urban communities in the Bay Area Like San Francisco or Oakland. Unlike the other urban and sub-urban communities, Walnut Creek’s last homicide was about two years ago. So, many residents of Walnut Creek, CA woke up to a surprise on Saturday morning. News spread that Courtney Brown was murdered at Crogan’s Sports Bar and Grill.
Courtney Brown was leaving Crogan’s Sports Bar and Grill at 1:28 am on Saturday, 8/27/16, when he was shot in the back three times by a man named Larry Griffin. Courtney Brown was a father of one and had a fiance. He was a patron of Crogan’s and Lt. Cashion from Walnut Creek Police Department says “Our officers heard sounds of gunfire from Locust Street and Cypress...and our officers located Courtney Brown, suffering from three gunshot wounds to his back. An ambulance took him to John Muir Medical facility, where he later succumbed to his injuries.”
The last fatal shooting that happened in Walnut Creek was about two years ago according to Lt. Cashion.
Larry Griffin was arrested for suspected murder. He was taken into custody and he will be serving time at the Martinez Detention Facility until his court appearance at 1:30, Sept. 15 for homicide. He is being held unless he can post 2 million dollars for bail. His Bay Point home was searched and no injuries were sustained. Lt. Cashion said Courtney Brown may have been targeted. Even though there were over thirty people as witnesses, almost none have come forward with details related to the crime.
