This project was inspired by the artist David Hammons, as well as the filmmaker Chris Jordans. The message conveyed in my project, similar to the works featured here, clearly upsets and provokes a emotional reaction. I felt the provocative language was appropriate/necessary, specifically after viewing, "pissed off" by David Hammons- which depicts him peeing on the side of a statue. the nature of this announcement, however, relates to the work done by the film maker Chris Jordans. upon seeing this film, i was shocked and overwhelmed with helplessness over the death and destruction caused by human waste.
Although it is true; it is also far too easy and convenient to explain how the digital age of technology has helped elucidate prevalent issues, most of which not having been understandable or relatable prior. Instead i'd make the counter argument that the digital age has done more to negatively combat prevalent issues such as pollution, equality, and ect..... Rather the digital era has given rise to advancements in technology(nano/computer), weaponry, and even concepts that exacerbate the issues ranging from climate change to mental health implications( we have still yet to fully understand). we frequently see images like these online, on television sometimes even in person, but what do we do? speak up? doing anything meaningful? no. we all to often often lower our heads and even shrug our shoulders. passive concern about an existential issue such as climate change amounts to tacit endorsement of waste and plastic pollution that causes said crisis. without bold action at the consumer level this issue will coalesce into a situation humans are unable to ameliorate
