Come and join us at our next monthly lunch on Friday the 28th August at Rocksalt at 4/78 Hawker Pl, Hawker
The Canberra Lung Life Support Group began in 1998, when a small group of just eight people with chronic lung conditions and their carers got together to help each other cope with the challenges they were experiencing. From that small beginning, 27 years ago, membership has expanded to its current 70 people. Many live with a range of co-morbidities, not all are physically able to attend our face-to-face meetings, so our monthly newsletter helps maintain connections to the group.
We are an independent face-to-face support group that is run by members, for members, operating from a platform provided by the Lung Foundation of Australia.
We provide a safe and welcoming environment to meet others, share stories, form friendships, talk through challenges, and have fun.
We are a place of trust and belonging, for people living with chronic lung conditions, their families, and carers.
We aim to achieve three core goals:
To support people coping with the challenges of living with, or caring for someone living with, a chronic lung condition.
To bring people with similar experiences together and help each other with the challenges of living with a chronic lung condition.
To enable people to share practical insights with each other, that can only come from first-hand experience.
We host regular social gatherings and monthly meetings to bring people with shared experiences together, to support one another through the challenges of living with chronic lung conditions. We often meet for social lunches at various locations around the Canberra Region.
We build and maintain connections with many health and support services across Canberra to provide advocacy for people living with chronic lung conditions. Through our advocacy we educate our members about services available in the ACT, so they can access the support they need, by better navigating the health system. We also provide a voice for people with chronic lung conditions and their carers on a range of projects, forums and representative bodies.
We provide accurate and up-to-date information, and education on topics such as: chronic illness, medical conditions, navigating the health system, and sustaining a quality of life.
First and foremost, we encourage each other to live the best life possible, and offer support, social connections, and friendship to individuals and their families living with chronic lung disorders.
We offer support for people living with conditions such as:
COPD
Emphysema
Chronic Bronchitis
Chronic Asthma
Bronchiectasis
Pulmonary Fibrosis
Dust Disease
Asbestosis
Silicosis
Lung Cancer
