Students and researchers learn and work in many places but the bulk of education and research takes place in three campuses: Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, Clarkson Campus and Wake Forest Innovation Quarter.
Students and researchers at Wake Forest School of Medicine are not tied to a single building or laboratory; they are constantly learning and collaborating, wherever they are. And with distance-learning technology, those opportunities will continue to expand. Most of their time, however, will be spent in our three main geographic campuses.
The Wake Forest Innovation Quarter is one of the fastest-growing urban-based innovation districts in the United States and is home to Wake Forest School of Medicine's state-of-the-art facilities. With more than 90 companies, it serves as a hub for research, business and education in biomedical science, information technology, digital media, clinical services and growing number of amenities such as salons, bars, restaurants, a cycle shop and a sundry mercantile.
This robust knowledge community is also known for its focus on culture and wellness. From pop-up dance performances, free outdoor yoga, lively concerts and cinema under the stars, you'll discover a full calendar of events. Foodies can dine on tapas, Napolitano pizza or Southern-inspired dishes within the local food scene along with a rotating schedule of food trucks that park at the Innovation Quarter's prime spot to hang out: Bailey Park. A 1.6-acre green space with a stage and patio, Bailey Park is one of the city's epicenters for cultural activities. In addition to its regular programming, the park hosts large-scale events throughout the year, including the Winston-Salem Cycling Classic, the Gears & Guitars music festival and a local Juneteenth celebration.
If you like to get outside, Bailey Park isn't your only option. Long Branch Trail, a 1.7-mile greenway runs past the back entrance of the Bowman Gray center. After class, hop on a bike or slip on your running shoes to get a unique view of the city's skyline or connect to the city's larger greenway system for a 20-mile loop around Salem Lake and back.
The Innovation Quarter is also rapidly becoming a hub of entrepreneurship with varied programming such as Venture Caf Winston-Salem, a cultural engine for driving local innovation and entrepreneurship. Get in on Venture Caf's weekly Thursday Gatherings, an intentional space for students, CEOS, artists, scientists and other professionals to build community and inspire entrepreneurial action.
Wake Forest University School of Medicine and Atrium Health received the needed accreditation approval and notification to proceed with phased plans to open an instructional site in Charlotte, and students in years three and four of the medical school curriculum are now able to have clinical rotations at Atrium Health locations in Charlotte, allowing us to bring our nationally ranked education and research programs to students and expand our ability to train the best medical providers for the communities we serve.
A 20-acre site in midtown Charlotte, at the current corner of South McDowell Street and Baxter Street, adjacent to US-277, has been selected for the campus and a groundbreaking is expected in the first quarter of 2023. Wake Forest University School of Medicine anticipates the initial class of first-year medical students in Charlotte will begin their education in 2025.
The Clarkson Campus is approximately ten miles from the main campus of Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. The campus was named in honor of Thomas B Clarkson Jr to recognize his accomplishments during his 58-year career at Wake Forest School of Medicine. The primary activities at the Clarkson Campus are research and training. The Campus has been home to the faculty of the Section on Comparative Medicine since the mid-1960s and researchers from a variety of departments and centers also use the Clarkson Campus, including:

At Harding University, we believe in the importance of a global education. We offer no less. That's why 48% of the 2010 graduating class have participated in a study-abroad experience at one of our international campuses.
Head down under with Harding University in Australasia (HUA). HUA provides students the opportunity to see a number of different countries on the Asian and Australian continents. Students have an extended stay in Queenstown, New Zealand, and often visit other sites in New Zealand including Auckland. During this time, students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of outdoor adventures after class, including hiking, fishing, skydiving, bungee jumping and whitewater rafting. In Australia, students may tour locations including Sydney, Cairns and Brisbane and take a cruise on the Great Barrier Reef, with the option of snorkeling or scuba diving on site. The semester will also include a trip to one or more Asian countries. In past semesters, groups have visited countries including India, Cambodia, Thailand, Japan, Vietnam, China and more. More information will be given to enrolled HUA students when the travel schedule for each semester is finalized. The HUA program typically takes place during Fall semesters only and travels with a maximum of 40 students.
Established in 1980, Harding University in Florence (HUF) was the first of the University's international programs. HUF students live in a 15th-century villa midway up a hill southwest of Florence in the city of Scandicci, complete with a view of the Arno Valley and the Apennine Mountains. In addition to this beautiful setting, students enjoy meals prepared by two Italian cooks. Living just outside of Florence provides endless opportunities to explore all that the city has to offer: climbing the Duomo, strolling across the Ponte Vecchio, visiting the Uffizi, the Accademia and more.
Tours outside of Florence continue to highlight Italian culture and history by taking students to see the wonders of Rome, Pompeii, Pisa, San Gimignano, Siena, Lucca, Casentino and more. Students have independent travel time during the semester, as well as an option for more before heading home. The HUF program takes place during each Spring, Summer and Fall semester and travels with a maximum of 40 students each semester.
The program focuses on Latin American culture, history and the Spanish language, and the group immerses in the culture by visiting many places in Peru, Argentina and Chile, such as Easter Island, Machu Picchu, the Amazon rainforest, Patagonia, Lima, Cusco, Lake Titicaca, Colca Canyon, the Nazca Lines, Paracas and more.
All students are required to enroll in a Spanish class, but no previous Spanish experience is required. Spanish majors and minors have the opportunity to enroll in upper-level Spanish classes to progress in their degree plan and improve their language proficiency while experiencing Latin America firsthand. The HULA program takes place during Spring semesters only and travels with a maximum of 40 students each semester.
The HUE program travels throughout Western Europe to offer students a chance to visit many countries. The semester includes trips to various European destinations such as England, Scotland, Ireland, Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Italy, Spain, and Portugal, as well as a cruise! The HUE program takes place during Fall semesters only and travels with a maximum of 40 students.
Additionally, students will travel with their directors to other countries in Southeast Africa such as Rwanda, Tanzania, and Cape Town. In Rwanda, students learn about the Genocide and the redemptive way Rwanda has rebuilt itself as a country. In Cape Town, students will visit the Cape Point Nature Preserve, spend time with the Boulder Penguin Colony, see the 12 Apostles Mountains, climb Table Mountain, view the scenic Kirstenbosch Gardens, visit Robben Island, and even have the chance to take surfing lessons. 152ee80cbc
