Angkor Wat (Khmer: អង្គរវត្ត, meaning "City of Temples") is a massive Hindu-Buddhist temple complex in Cambodia.It is an architectural masterpiece and holds the distinction of being the largest religious monument in the world.

Angkor Wat is located in Siem Reap Province, in northwestern Cambodia. It is about 5.5 kilometers (3.4 miles) north of Siem Reap town, within the larger Angkor Archaeological Park.

Angkor Wat temple complex covers an area of approximately 162.6 hectares (about 1.6 square kilometers or 402 acres). This includes the central temple structure, surrounding moats, galleries, and courtyards.
The main purpose of building Angkor Wat Temple are:
Religious Center: It was the state temple of the Khmer Empire, reflecting Hindu cosmology and intended to honor the gods—especially Vishnu, which was unusual since most Khmer temples were dedicated to Shiva.
Royal Mausoleum: It was also designed as the king's tomb, symbolizing his divine status and ensuring his journey to the afterlife.
Angkor Wat is part of the Angkor World Heritage site, a complex of temples and ruins in Cambodia, and it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1992.
