The project officially re-began with a research grant from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS KAKENHI), marking the start of full-scale research activities under the titled 'Theoretical and empirical research on the linguistic and cultural characteristics of argumentation through international comparison of mathematics classrooms'

An international symposium "Argumentation and Proof in Mathematics Education from Cultural and Linguistic Perspectives" was held at Waseda University, Tokyo, inviting researchers and educators from Japan and abroad, and there was also a public lecture by Christine Knipping and Fiene Bredow on "Argumentation in Mathematics Education Research, 1980-2020: An Overview".
