The Froli
Frolies are kind, gentle, completely tranquil creatures which live in the forest surrounding Camp Amy Molson.
Adult Frolies build and occupy homes made entirely of marshmallows while young Frolies are more often in houses constructed from fish sticks. The Froli’s diet is strictly limited to porridge (oatmeal), mushrooms, and strawberries. It should be stressed that under no circumstances would any Froli even consider snacking on a human, let alone an adorable camper!
Frolies are easily distinguished from any other creature in the area surrounding C.A.M. You will recognize them by their characteristic fluffy head which is quite large and perfectly round. Frolies have antennae with round balls at their tips and small round noses. An adult Froli measures approximately 2 to 3 feet high (roughly one metre). The only limbs Frolies possess are fluffy legs ending in similarly fuzzy feet: Frolies have neither arms nor hands. Frolies have large, round eyes which are an integral part of the Froli’s pleasant facial expression.
Elder Froli
Elder Froli is the oldest, wisest Froli in the Froli Forest. He is somewhat larger than the average Froli and is basically a really friendly sort.
With the help of these friends from Froli-hood, King Frog, Princess Lily, and the Fantasy Bird, he watches over C.A.M. Making sure everyone is safe and happy.
Before becoming chief of the Froli clan, Elder Froli had to overcome his debilitating fear of making decisions.
Vanquishing the phobia which had haunted him since his youth has helped Elder Froli become self-assured and confident.
The Fantasy Bird
The Fantasy Bird, whose name was originally Firley Bird, is a large bird often seen soaring high above C.A.M. making sure everyone is safe and happy.
He is a unique bird (he’s the ONLY one of his kind). He went to school with King Frog, Princess Lily, and Elder Froli; he is a dear friend to them all.
King Frog
He went to school with Princess Lily, Elder Froli, and the Fantasy Bird. He lives at the lake where he has his throne.
He is rarely on his throne because he patrols the lake making sure everyone at boating is safe and having fun, but the children will want to go heck anyway.
As a young frog, King Frog felt very cowardly. As he progressed towards maturity, he overcame this feeling of self-doubt and is now known as the bravest of all creatures in the Froli Forest. His extreme bravery was once demonstrated in a great battle between King Frog and the notorious pirates (King Frog, of course, was the victor!) The pirates had stolen King Frog’s gold, but he was able to get it back so he can share it with the children at camp. Although he enjoys sharing his wealth with the campers, he is disturbed by greed: each person must therefore only take a reasonable amount of his gold. King Frog, like his wife, Princess Lily whom he married during the summer of 1988 in a pool-side ceremony, is approximately the size of an eight year old child. Although this may not seem very large, please remember they are frogs! They are extremely large for members of their species.
Princess Lily
Princess Lily, King Frog’s wife, lives on the lily-pads on the lake and watches over the activities at boating with her husband. As a young frog, she felt she was an ugly frog and was terrified to look at her own reflection. Eventually, she accepted herself and now realizes, as everyone would agree, that she is the most beautiful frog anyone has ever seen.
The Pirates
The Pirates are the arch-nemesis of King Frog and the other forest creatures. They represent the only force of evil in the area (what would a legend be without some form of evil?). It has been told that they once kidnapped Leviticus and tried to corrupt him, but were unsuccessful. Thanks to King Frog and his friends, their exploits have all failed. They once stole King Frog’s gold, but in the battle that ensured, the pirate ship was destroyed and the pirates were driven out of the area.
Leviticus
Leviticus was found as an egg and was adopted by King Frog. Soon, Leviticus grew very large, but he remained docile and loving towards his adoptive family. Growing up, Leviticus became an avid piano player (through not extremely talented!) Leviticus was kidnapped by the pirates who wished to turn him against King Frog. Of course, Leviticus’ goodness overcame all the brainwashing he had undergone, and he returned happily home. Leviticus now lives at the bottom of the lake where he happily plays his piano throughout the day.
The next time you are down at the lake, especially while boating, listen carefully for the sound of his piano.
The Froli Forest
This is the wooded area surrounding C.A.M. Its boundaries are flexible. This is a perfect place to find Frolies...go out and have a Froli search!
The Froli Forest is less scary than other forests because it houses all sorts of friendly creatures.
The Dark Forest
This forest is the home of the evil pirates (see the previous page) and, in fact, is the place of origin of all evil in the C.A.M. Legends.
This forest is so far away from camp, that no one really knows its exact location.
King Frog’s Chair
King Frog’s chair is a wooden chair that serves as King Frog’s throne. It is from this position that King Frog surveys the lake “When in state”, though he is often out patrolling. To get to this treasured spot, go to the left side of the docks when leaving C.A.M. Beach. Follow the shore until the returning campers start yelling, “There’s King Frog’s chair!!!,” Or until you see it sitting on a large rock. This treasure is a sort of shiny, translucent mineral found in the area. In large chunks, it looks like gold (thus the name). Look for it as base of King Frog’s chair and slightly to the right of it. A word of warning to unsuspecting counsellors: Mica, (which is what the geologists call this substance silly them), is very flaky! It can be broken into an
infinite number of tiny pieces which do not easily come out of clothes (pockets), hair, or cabins.
Froli Shampoo
This foam-like substance can be found in the pools of water on the waterfall trail.
Naturally, Frolies must keep clean...this is just some concrete proof of their existence (in case you needed some more proof, that is!)
