For Fostering Positive Motivation Patterns
In the modern world, there are an amazing amount of methods regarding how to effectively teach. For our purpose regarding Self-Determination and this project, there are two methods that will be focused upon. One is more tuned towards student's needs, and the other is all about conforming to what the teacher expects and prefers.
A form of educating that relies on teachers instructing students in a way that benefits their intrinsic motivation for the subject.
A form of educating that relies on teachers controlling their students motivation toward a subject extrinsically .

This type of question is often hard to answer without divulging into a type of bias, but for the purpose of Self-Determination Theory, the answer is very clear. Intrinsically motivated students are the end result of successful practice of the theory, so Autonomous teaching is the way to go. This is the right answer because autonomy is one of the basic concepts of Self-Determination theory, and Autonomous teaching is heavily rooted in intrinsic motivation. Controlling teaching methods are usually the easiest and what teachers fall back upon when other methods "don't work." The method is very rooted in extrinsic motivation, which is what our theory strives to stay away from. From the above reasoning and bullet points, I can say without a reasonable doubt that Autonomous teaching methods are what educators should strive for.
