Thank you for your interest in Cal Poly Mock Trial. We are so excited to meet you!
Mock Trial consists of two roles....
Attorneys, whether for the prosecution/plaintiff or the defense, craft a legal strategy to support their case. They prepare and deliver opening statements, question witnesses through direct and cross-examinations, and conclude with closing arguments aimed at persuading the judge or jury.
At your tryout, you will deliver a rehearsed statement that we have prepared for you. You have the choice to simulate an opening OR closing argument.
Witnesses testify using pre-written statements/factual knowledge. They prepare for direct examination with their assigned attorney, and during cross-examination, they respond to opposing counsel, using critical thinking and consistency.
At your tryout, you are expected to have prepared one of our pre-written direct examinations as the witness (expert, character, and emotional options are available).
We encourage all students to give both roles a shot, especially if you have never done mock trial before.
You must attend one of our mandatory information meetings to try out.
They will be taking place on Tuesday, September 23rd from 8-9pm and Thursday, September 25th from 8-9pm.
Location: Erhart Agriculture/Building 10, Room 231.
