Mock Trial is a collaborative, competitive activity that blends aspects of law, public speaking, debate, and performance for undergraduate students. Designed to replicate real courtroom proceedings, students have the opportunity to engage in trial simulations that mirror the structure and style of actual legal cases.
At the college level, mock trial is organized by the American Mock Trial Association (AMTA), which oversees competitions involving more than 700 teams nationwide. Each season, AMTA releases a single fictional case, which teams prepare to argue through regional and national tournaments, culminating in the AMTA National Championship in April.
Cal Poly Mock Trial is a nationally recognized, award-winning organization that offers students hands-on experience with trial advocacy and courtroom procedures. Through active participation, members develop a strong foundation in civil and criminal law, the rules of evidence, witness examination, and courtroom etiquette.
Our team competes at a vast array of tournaments each year and holds regular practices focused on collaboration, critical thinking, and skill-building. Each fall, we welcome new and returning members into a dynamic, supportive environment where they can sharpen their public speaking, legal reasoning, and teamwork abilities.
Our executive board is in charge of running the program in its entirety, and they look forward to the upcoming season!
