Self Introduction
Hi, My name is Kalpana Gurung from the IKON Institute of Australia. I am pursuing a bachelor's in early childhood and education as an Early Childhood Teacher (ECT). I want to give you a sneak preview of my portfolio, experiences, and skills acquired throughout my journey to becoming an ECT. I kept a journal of my progress throughout my work placement.
I was born and raised in Nepal. Then, I moved to Australia in 2019 to build upon my career path. My favourite hobbies are watching movies, trying different foods, and visiting different places. I speak Nepali, English, and Hindi fluently. I can talk in Hindi because Nepal is close to India, and we watch Hindi movies and dramas. I earned my early childhood diploma from the Institute of Health and Nursing Australia (IHNA). Now, I am doing my ECT at IKON.
My Philosophy
As an early childhood teacher, I believe that each child is unique and grows and develops at their own pace. I advocate for providing children with ample time and opportunities to play and explore their environment without interruptions. It is important to offer children various learning opportunities while respecting their rights to enhance their learning and development. Building healthy relationships with children and communicating with their families about their development is crucial. This approach promotes a trusting culture within early childhood education.
I design learning experiences tailored to each child's needs, interests, and abilities. Reflecting on these experiences and making improvements are vital to my teaching approach. I focus on incorporating play-based activities to foster creativity, problem-solving, and social interaction, as play is the primary means through which young children explore and learn about the world around them.
Building positive relationships with children based on mutual respect, trust, and empathy is essential. I aim to create a safe and supportive environment where children feel valued, heard, and understood. Celebrating the diverse backgrounds, cultures, and abilities of the children and families in my classroom is crucial. I am committed to creating an inclusive learning environment that acknowledges and respects each child's unique identity and experiences.
Involving families in their child's learning journey through open communication, collaboration, and meaningful engagement opportunities is important. I also strive to connect with and involve community resources to enhance children's learning experiences. Additionally, I am dedicated to continuous professional growth and learning as an educator, seeking out opportunities for professional development to enhance my teaching skills and knowledge.
I make it a priority to regularly reflect on my teaching practices and seek feedback from colleagues, families, and children in order to continuously improve and refine my approach. I am open-minded and adaptable, always willing to learn from both successes and challenges. My goal is to create a nurturing and enriching learning environment where children can thrive and reach their full potential during their formative years.
