The Japan Educational Calligraphy Federation was formed in 1951 mainly by participants in the Ministry of Education's Teacher Certification Act Certification Seminar (co-sponsored by Tokyo Kasei University and Japan Women's University), and has since carried out activities with the aim of "correct calligraphy education" and "improving the art of calligraphy."
Shodo (Calligraphy) callege was opened in 1978, welcoming approximately 200 students, in response to the eager desire of many people from all over the country.
Practical instruction is provided by calligraphy professors, Nitten judges, and calligraphers of equivalent rank, while for academic purposes the callege invites professors from leading universities, including the University of Tokyo, who are authorities in the field. We also have a fully equipped art museum where students can view masterpieces.
