We had a good Model Contest this year at the Smoke And Steam Convention in Denver. There were 34 items entered for display. This number is about two-thirds of the number of entries at Salt Lake City. 18 items were entered for Merit Award judging, with 15 of them receiving a score of 87 ½ points or more. In fact, twelve received 100 points or more. This is the first time that many models have achieved a score that high in the last nine contests that I have been your chairman. 16 items were entered for display only with one item being a photograph.
The Merit Award Judges this year were: Gary Myers, Greg Long, Harold Huber, Donald Bailey, Vic Kuklin, Steve Schweighofer, Doug Whetstone, Rich Flammini, and Rich Combs. With nine judges this year, the work was completed early. Four of the judges (Steve Schweighofer, Doug Whetstone, Rich Flammini, and Rich Combs) were new to the procedures and received an education in what is required to judge a model and how to improve their model building skills. Also, they should now be able to assist this division with local judging requirements.

There were five entries in the Mini Diorama category. This was not as many as I would have liked to see, but was better then the usual situation.
The Smoke & Steam category only had two entries. This was a disappointment because I was hoping for many more with that theme.
The NMRA has changed the entry form and the local division is no longer identified. Therefore, I cannot list the number of models entered by division. All I can do now is list the number of entries from each state in our region.
Colorado-12, Utah-1, New Mexico-1, Wyoming-6, and Idaho-1
