RIO GRANDE

The Rio Grande Model Railroad Club is now two years old, and continues to work on their layout, the Spokane Valley and Northern.  The Club is for youth ages 8-18, and meets once a month on the second Saturday.  They recently had the opportunity to operate trains during Expo New Mexico, on the Rio Grande Valley Railroad, a permanent HO layout located at the New Mexico State Fairgrounds.  The members are preparing to make a presentation at the next Division 6 meeting, on November 14th.

On September 26, the New Mexico Steam Locomotive and Railroad Historical Society, held an open house at the site of the restoration of the ATSF 4-8-4 Northern #2926.  A huge crowd attended the event, and Rio Grande Division 6 was represented by Secretary Charlie Baker and Superintendent Buzz Lenander.  Work on the locomotive is progressing, with hopes of the first "Steam Up" next spring!

The big event for the Division this year, Rails Along the Rio Grande 2015 Train Show, had to be cancelled 60 days before the event, due to heightened security issues at the National Guard Armory.  The show was held there last year, and was to be held there again this year.  The venue is no longer available for public use.  Division 6 Train Show Committee members are hard at work in search of another permanent location where the Train Show can continue next November.

      Open every Saturday morning, 9:00 am - Noon; and Wednesday evening, 6:30 - 8:30 pm.

      ASHOME (Albuquerque Society of HO Model Engineers), located just South of the Hoffmantown Shopping Center, at 2225

      Wyoming NE.   Open from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm. every Monday and Saturday.

       Rio Grande Valley Model RR Club, HO layout, located on the New Mexico State Fairgrounds, in the Bolack Building.  Open

       every Wednesday, 7:00 - 9:00 pm.

Division 6 meetings are held the second Saturday of the odd numbered months (Jan., Mar., May, July, Sept., and Nov.) at the  North Domingo Baca Center, located at 7521 Carmel NE, 1:00 pm.  The  next meeting is scheduled for November 14.
