FRONT RANGE DIVISION
The Front Range Division does not have a meeting in August. In place of it, we have a picnic at the Colorado Railroad Museum. The Sunrise and South Suburban Divisions are invited. The CRRM has built a wonderful pavilion which we utilize. We had good time eating potluck food, talking trains, and wandering around the museum grounds.
The October meeting had a record attendance when FRD member Kevin Ruble announced he had bought Caboose Hobbies. He discussed plans for Caboose and at this time did not have a location firmed up. Subsequently, he has bought a building on the west side of Denver at the corner of Oak and Alameda and is in the process of preparing it for business. As a modeler he is actively building a large HO model railroad using the Monon Railroad as the prototype.
Richard Luckin produces railroad videos which have won Emmys for their content and professionalism. He presented the November clinic of his latest DVD. The subject was the NYC 20th Century Limited train which went from Grand Central Terminal to LaSalle St. Station in Chicago. The train operated from 1902 to 1967, and Richard had obtained photos and film from that time period. Actor Michael Gross narrated the DVD, and by the way, is a model railroader.
In December we had our traditional “Gathering of the Elves” which is an off-site get together to eat and talk trains.
To start off the New Year, new Caboose owner Kevin Ruble gave a fascinating clinic on the Marquette Rail which he owned along with the employees, this was the largest employee owned railroad in the world. Located in west central Michigan this railroad had significant growth and served large customers. Kevin had a good time doing everything from being a switchman, to engineer to CEO. What a story!
The Front Range Division meets the third Monday of the month at 7:00pm at the Colorado Railroad Museum in the Delay Junction building. The meeting starts off with the clinic, followed by a “Show and Tell” session and the meeting is concluded with a short business meeting. We do not hold meetings in August and December. In August, we have the FRD picnic, also, at the CRRM and in December we have a Christmas Party off-site.
