Spring 2022 Results

We had an amazing experience this spring. 25 students took part in a great series of Friday field work adventures. Our program of study was limited in scope and designed with several goals in mind. First, as a training exercise for new student archaeologists considering becoming professionals in the field; second, as a way to begin connecting the Muwekma Ohlone to the research and with MROSD; and thirdly, to continue our focus on understanding postcolonial relationships among the Native Americans and Colonial settlers during the last few centuries. A multipronged research focus was undertaken to include survey coverage of the land with field walking, GIS map making, and geophysical techniques such as ground-penetrating radar; limited subsurface testing using archaeological excavations; and, finally continued archival research at local heritage centers.

Students did all that!
