After three years of studying drafting in high school, I became an intern for a local architecture firm, Southfork Design where I produced full construction blueprints and interactive 3D models using ArchiCAD. My boss assigned me to my parent's house as my first project.
Building a basement wasn't an option, due to the high water table and risk of flooding in the area. With a family of 8 and a low budget, efficiency was key.
I designed the house mostly rectangular with a second floor build within the roof trusses instead of in the traditional fashion. This added almost fifty percent more square footage at a fraction of the cost. Gables, dormer windows, and bay windows give the house a homey, country look and expand the space without much extra cost.
