Responsible for contributing to the design, implementation, analysis, and communication of findings from scientific studies and program activities mostly related to GIS, mapping, and spatial analyses, including research on maternal mortality access modeling, neglected tropical disease programs, HIV care and treatment country programs, and optimization of referral and transportation networks delivering medical supplies and laboratory samples. Parker provides technical assistance and training to teams on GIS and data visualization.
2015 – 2018 Research Associate II/GIS Analyst, FHI 360, North Carolina
GIS analyst modeling community-to-facility travel times for women in labor, and then the inter-facility referral routes for emergency needs in Mozambique; creating scenarios for decreased travel time and increased access using GIS. Supports proposal development by adding GIS components for projects requiring population identification, M&E, data visualization on maps, and spatial analyses. Provides technical assistance through GIS trainings for both static and web-based, interactive maps.
2011 – 2015 Research Associate/GIS Analyst, FHI 360, North Carolina
As a GIS Analyst: developed training materials for geographic information systems software ArcGIS and web-based interactive maps (ArcGIS.com), and organized and led 10 trainings; modeled spatial access to emergency obstetric services in Mozambique; generated maps of HIV services in Ukraine for decision support planning; modeled distance paths for referral networks in Ethiopia for averting maternal death and disability using ArcGIS; conducted facility suitability analysis for distribution of HIV PrEP drug. As a Qualitative Analyst: monitored enhanced recruitment strategies for FEM-PrEP, a large clinical trial, and continued analyzing qualitative data on pill adherence and trial motivation. Supported data collection and analysis of quantitative data on HIV risk for a study in US and Tanzania, and on a large clinical trial in several countries in southern Africa.
2007 – 2011 Research Assistant, FHI 360, North Carolina
Prepared interview guides, coded and analyzed qualitative data in NVivo 8 for three protocols on a phase-III, multi-site clinical trial in Sub-Saharan Africa; a behavioral study of HIV risk in North Carolina; and a gender-based violence study on MSM in Southeast Asia.
