Sprocket & Reel was founded by Caleb Allison to help share the joys of celluloid filmmaking with diverse communities and promote 16mm as an accessible format through comprehensive 2-day workshops.
As a proud Navy veteran and educator, Caleb understands what it means to serve a community and looks forward to sharing analog filmmaking with new audiences. Now over 100 years old, 16mm is still one of the most beautiful and satisfying motion picture formats to shoot with, but functional equipment is hard to come by, expensive to refurbish, or closely guarded by large educational and cultural institutions.

Though we're based out of Bloomington, IN, we'll travel across the nation or internationally to bring you a one-of-a-kind experience.
An open mind and willingness to explore your creative passions...that's pretty much it. While some filmmaking or photography experience may be beneficial, anyone can learn to shoot on film.
Workshops work best with a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 12 participants put into small production groups, but we're happy to explore alternatives based on your community's needs.
A small space for the actual workshop, but contact us to explore options in your area if you don't have a usable space on site.
These workshops are for any group, company, institution, or special event with a community open to new and creative challenges, including film festivals, arts and culture festivals, archives, museums, galleries, corporate retreats, community and recreational centers, conferences, arthouse movie theaters, and university clubs or departments, to name a few.
