WHAT IS DYSLEXIA?
Dyslexia is a Specific Learning Difficulty (SpLD) which primarily affects reading, writing, and the ability to process information with automaticity. Retaining the learnt information can be a challenge and consequently affects the learning and acquisition of literacy skills. Dyslexia can also impact areas such as organisational skills.
Included in an assessment report, are the recommendations and strategies which are designed to advise on how to best support the individual so that learning incorporates and focuses more on the individual's learning strengths rather than on their difficulties.
An assessment for Primary and Secondary children examines:
Phonological awareness
Areas of Memory (Phonological memory; and Visual and Verbal short-term sequential and working memory)
Processing Speed
Visual and Verbal ability
Reading
Spelling
Handwriting
