Pushing ourselves toward new experiences opens the door to new possibilities. I spoke at the CU Board of Regents and realized the countless opportunities for creative solutions amidst our diverging perspectives. We must share our views to illuminate these ideas. Constant feedback and adaptation are essential to improving plans, but we must remember that no solution is perfect. The best we can do is to move into the intersections of these complex challenges by working together to co-construct ideas that potentially facilitate peace and prosperity and a more just, equitable, and sustainable world.
There are countless opportunities for evolution around us. Specifically, I experience the most growth when my current assumptions are challanged by others. There is value in our community & working together because we each bring unique perspectives to the table. When we unite, despite our differences, we have the opportunity to co-create new understandings of and ideas to better the complex eco-social justice issues that constantly challenge our world.
I worked as a Learning Assistant for my Developmental Psychology professor in the fall of my senior year. One lesson I’ve taken with me is how to treat myself and others with compassion, which has allowed me to be more receptive to feedback. Before becoming an LA, I was a perfectionist and afraid of failure; receiving feedback was incredibly nerve-racking, and I constantly attributed my mistakes to personal shortcomings. Now, I’ve learned to perceive feedback as compassionate, hold a growth mindset, and respectfully offer my perspective for improvements. This understanding has allowed me to frequently ask for others’ perspectives, listen more closely to their feedback, and feel open to the process overall. This feedback loop will enable individuals to improve while remembering that the goal isn’t perfection.
