If you like dystopian fiction- you will enjoy this read. America has gone through its second Civil War. No longer known as America, Gilead, is a place like no other & not in a good way. There is no more education, college is a thing of the past. Writing and reading are prohibited. Women have been stripped of their rights and are now the property of men. There are different levels of social class which are very important in the society. Everything is about class. Offred, having been stripped of her family, her livelihood, and even motherhood is now a handmaid. Chosen to bare children to one of the Gilead commanders. Offred talks about her past life as if it was some sort of movie she had seen. Not really believing that was her life before. Unmarried men and women cannot speak to one another, let alone be in the same room together. Everything in this society is completely different than the American that Offred uses to know. This is not her first time being a handmaid, no, she has experience with this life. However, she is having strange feelings. All she knows is what she is feeling isn't love.
