Starland (tentative title): A project done for my Visual Design class in college. A fairy from Starland gets stranded on the ground, and recruits some new friends to help her find out why the bridge to Starland disappeared.
Melissa is a Damselfly Fairy from Starland. She's a bit naive and inexperienced in the way the world works outside of Starland, but honestly cares for others and wants to "do what's right" despite her limitations. Her tendency to want to help every person in need has gotten the group sidetracked on occasion, but she still hasn't forgotten her original goal. She worries about what the bridge's disappearance could mean for her people in Starland...
Ann works on a family-owned ranch... of Giant Spiders. (Yes, you read that right.) The spiders on the ranch produce super strong silk that the ranch sells, and some of the spiders are even big enough to be trained and ridden like many-legged horses. Ranch hands wear specialty scarves that look somewhat like another pair of legs and clothes that mimic the spiders' colors in order to get the Giant Spiders to accept them as one of their own. Ann herself has a Giant Spider that would've joined the group later on in the story as a means of transportation. Personality-wise, Ann is confidant and outspoken, though sometimes she fails to pick up on subtle social cues. She tries to look out for Melissa, almost like a big sister.
Pokak is from one of the forest-dwelling Mask Tribes- that is, a tribe of people who wear enchanted masks their whole life. Each member carves their own mask when they come of age and wear it the rest of their life. Pokak's mask's design is based off of a skull. He's somewhat quiet, but will still speak up when he thinks his input is needed. He tends to be the voice of reason in the group, though he can sometimes be a bit blunt.
Concept sketches of the Mushroom Witches... plus their brother. They draw their magic from their mushroom hats/accessories.
A color script in which our protagonists meet some Mushroom Witches while trying to find their way through a Mushroom Forest.
A bio for my original species, Blats. This is actually a shortened version of it, since the original is kind of long.
If you want to see the full version, you can see it here.
Concept art for variations of Day Sprites, Night Sprites, and Crystal Sprites
The kid who named this Day Sprite called them "Bun" because they look like a little fairy bunny. How original.
Let's see, what is there to say about Bun? Well, they originate from one of the islands of Daybreak, and spent nearly their entire life living there. Bun tends to be blunt and opinionated, but they aren't always good at explaining why they have certain opinions. Bun also tends to assume that the things they know about magic and such are common knowledge, and it doesn't really occur to them that other people may not intuitively understand magic the same way they do. So unless you ask, they may not necessarily explain things to you. However they don't know much about civilization and technology due to living in Daybreak. Bun is very sensitive to magic (more so than most Sprites, which are already sensitive to magic), and will actively avoid sources of magic that they "don't like". This includes both environments and some people. Alternatively, they're drawn to people that have magic that they deem "nice". Bun has very simple wants and needs, and doesn't really have any ambitions; they mostly just live life day-by-day.
Darcel is an elf teen who is cursed with monstrous features. He's a bit on the quiet side, but has a habit of giving logical advice for different situations... though sometimes he pipes up when such advice isn't really wanted. Sometimes he does this just to be the voice of reason, even when he knows that there's no changing someone's mind. He doesn't like being ignored when he's honestly trying to be helpful, though. Darcel's circle of friends is rather small, so he tends to be a little clingy with the few close friends he does have.
"Creature" Character Designs made for my Designing Story Worlds class in college. They are based off of reptiles, amphibians, and fish, and live in a post-apocalyptic world.
