According to a survey of 130 caregivers conducted by Farah Abdulsatar in Canada, 67% were reported using unsafe teething products for their children aged 12-18 months. Unsafe teething products such as amber and hazelwood are commonly used despite recommendations and concerns against them, corroborated by recent reports of strangulations, suffocations, and death attributed to their use.
The purpose of my project is to create a teething toy that effectively reduces choking in infants, while also keeping qualities I consider significant in a toy.
I hope to create a toy that is chewable and overall FDA- safe. In the end, I want my design to be something babies enjoy using, and something parents trust.
I am ultimately seeking to change the number of infant fatalities due to the use of unsafe teething products.
