Staying on the trail is very easy; it's pretty difficult to get off-course or lost. At intersections, look for Dan Henry arrows and turn if directed to do so. Otherwise, stay the course. Almost all of the turns on the trail are T-intersections where you're forced to make a choice - look for the arrow. All the roads on the trail are primary paved roads; if you find yourself at a dead end or unpaved road, or a T-intersection with no markings, you've missed a turn. Just turn around and head back.
If you're on a day trip from Provo, it's critical that you make the last ferry back. Make sure you know when the last return ferry departs, plan to be at the marina 30 minutes before it leaves, and add to this a margin for error. Make note of this time as you ride, and be sure to turn around and head back in time to comfortable make it to the marina.
Upon disembarking the ferry at Bellfield Landing, get your bike and kit organized, collect your fellow travelers, and head out to the East - this is the only exit from the Marina. You will see the double WHITE Dan Henry arrows marking the start of the trail as soon as the unpaved marina switches to the paved road. Ride straight for 2 miles.
Just after you pass Wades Green Plantation on the left, take the turn to the LEFT to take the Kew bypass. DO NOT MISS THIS TURN! The bypass is less than a mile long, then turn LEFT again at the T-intersection at the end of the bypass. Continue on for about 3 miles - you will pass the intersection for the road to Sandy Point.
After a total of almost 7 miles, you will reach another T-intersection. You will see a park on the left/West side of the intersection, this is a great place for a break, and Josh's Bar (2) on the right/East side. Turn RIGHT (East) and ride through Whitby; you will continue straight along this road for many miles.
You will soon see a sign for the Barracuda Beach Bar (3) pointing to the left, pass KJ's Grocery (4) on the right and about 1.5 mile later a sign for the Flamingo Pond Overlook (5) on the right. After a total of just over 8 miles you will see a turn-off to the Public Beach (Horse Stable Beach) on the left and the Police station (6). But continue straight on.
As you proceed, you will pass the Aquatic Restaurant (8), and come to the MyDee's Plaza at mile 10 in Major Hill, where you will see MyDee's Restaurant, Nique's Grocery, and the liquor store (9). Continuing down the road, you will pass the (inactive) airport on the right, pass Al's Grocery (10) on the left on the corner, and Two Fat Brothers Bistro (also 10) on the right, and then the Parrot Ice ice cream shop (11) a short way ahead on the left. Keep riding!
At about mile 12 you will enter Bottle Creek Settlements, which has a couple of grocery stores where you can get water or snacks, most notably Dard's Grocery (13). Shortly after leaving Bottle Creek Settlements, you will see Frank's restaurant (14) on the right. As you continue down the road, admire the views overlooking the creek!
At mile 16 you will pass the Bottle Creek Lodge (16); stop by, either on the way out or back, for a cold water bottle fill! (If you take a break here, and turn around to head back to the marina, you will have had a nice 32 mile ride.)
As you continue, about 1/2 mile past the Bottle Creek Lodge is a turn to the RIGHT, and you drop down to the flats leading to the Causeway to Middle Caicos (17). When you cross the causeway and reach Middle Caicos, you are at mile 20.
After winding up to Middle Caicos, at mile 23 you will see the sign and turn-off for the Dragon Cay Bar & Grill and Mudjin Harbor Overlook (18). This is well worth the stop, for both the food and drink, and for the overlook. This is a great place for a rest stop, and if you turn around and return from here, as many folks do, you will have had a nice 46 mile ride total. If you continue down the road, you will soon see the entrance to the Indian Caves on the left, and a short distance past this the (inactive) airport on the right.
At mile 24, turn LEFT (North) to enter Conch Bar. (If you find yourself at the abandoned airport loop, you have missed the turn.) After only a couple of blocks, turn RIGHT (East) and continue on the main road. A short distance ahead, just as you're leaving Conch Bar, you will see a sign for the Seaview Cafe (20), also a great place for local flavor and something to eat or drink. But then continue on, being sure to take in the views of the ocean as you go.
NOTE : If you have an off-road bike, you can take a "shortcut" on the old road directly from the airport, past the Conch Bar Caves (19), to Lorimers. This is a very scenic, historic trail.
At mile 29 1/2, there is an unpaved turn-off to Bambara Beach, just before the main road turns right and climbs a small hill. It's a bit of a distance (just over 1/2 mile) on a rough dirt road, but well worth if you have the bike for this. If you continue on, however, the road begins to get hilly, and at mile 30 you will be at a T-intersection in Bambara; turn LEFT (East).
At about mile 33, you will ride through Lorimers, and then at mile 33.5 come to an end at Lorimers Landing. This is the trail turn-about; if you continue riding, you will get wet. If you've made it this far, turn around and head back!
The return trip is just the reverse of the trip out. Turn around, now following the BLUE Dan Henry arrows.
At mile 37, you will be back in Bambara; turn RIGHT to stay on the paved road.
At mile 43, you will come to the T-intersection in Conch Bar, having passed the Seaview Cafe. Turn LEFT (South), then a short distance ahead turn RIGHT at the T-intersection. At mile 44, you will be at the Dragon Cay Bar and Grill and Mudjin Harbor overlook. If you didn't stop on the way out, think about stopping now!
When you continue, you will descend to the causeway to North Caicos, cross over, and after a couple of miles on the flats at mile 50 climb back up to North Caicos. Turn LEFT at the top of the hill to stay on the paved road.
As you continue forward, you will pass the Bottle Creek Lodge, and later pass through Bottle Creek Settlements. Remember that there are grocery stores here where you can get water and food. As you leave Bottle Creek, you will be at mile 55.
As you continue further down the road, you will pass through Major Hill, feel free to stop for ice cream or something to eat! By the time you hit mile 60, you will be in Whitby and have passed the Flamingo Pond Overlook.
At mile 61, you will again see Josh's; turn LEFT (South) to stay on the paved road. Continue down the road for 2 miles.
At mile 64, turn RIGHT to take the Kew Bypass. The bypass is less than a mile long, turn RIGHT again at the T-intersection. A short way down this road you will pass Wades Green Plantation on the right. Continue for about 2 miles.
You're finished! Pack up your kit, and have something to eat and drink while you wait for the Ferry!
