Reflection Questions:
What did I learn?
How can I apply my learning in the future?
What is one area I could do better in my role-play interview?
It was a valuable learning experience to conduct a recruitment and interview process to hire a part-time cafe service crew member. The process of selecting the best person for the job had taught me many valuable lessons and it had also shown me some areas for improvement in my recruiting and interviewing skills. Looking back on this experience, I realized that I learned a lot of useful lessons that will be beneficial in the future when managing a recruitment process more effectively.
First, I grasped the significance of matching a candidate's beliefs, abilities, and character with the cafe's way of doing things when hiring. While getting to know about the candidate's hobbies, attitudes, and temperaments through the interview. I began to understand the candidate's work style better and I realized it's important to find someone who not only has the right technical skills but also gets along well with the team. This helps create a smooth and effective working environment.
Next, I learned the importance of structured questions in interviews. Structured questions are important as I can have a better assessment of a candidate's suitability for the position by using well-thought-out questions that address both technical and behavioral aspects. For example, open-ended questions are useful in getting the candidates to give in-depth responses. This method allows me to successfully assess the candidate's problem-solving, adaptability, and customer service orientation.
Furthermore, I also recognized that a relaxed and comfortable environment is necessary to allow the candidate to express themselves honestly, this allows me to more accurately assess the candidate's suitability for the role. By actively listening and engaging in meaningful conversations, I learned that candidates will gradually reveal their true personalities and motivations, helping me to get to know them better.

Moving forward, I plan to apply these learnings and the knowledge gained during the interview process to refine my approach to conducting future interviews in various ways. Firstly, I will place a high emphasis on the cultural fit of the candidate in the company. This will guide me in selecting candidates who not only meet the job requirements but also contribute positively to the overall workplace atmosphere. I intend to apply this principle when building teams, forming collaborations, and even in my personal interactions.
Additionally, the structured questioning technique is another valuable takeaway that I intend to apply in the future. I will invest more time in crafting thoughtful questions, by posing more thoughtful questions, I can further examine the candidates' problem-solving abilities in different scenarios and gauge the candidates' enthusiasm for the role. This will provide a comprehensive understanding of his/her capabilities beyond what is stated on the resume. Whether I'm conducting interviews for different roles, facilitating team discussions, or even engaging in problem-solving sessions, this approach will enable me to gather comprehensive insights and make informed decisions based on a holistic assessment of individuals.
I also plan to focus on creating a warm and welcoming experience for the interviewee. For example, I can ask how he/she is feeling initially before beginning the interview to make sure the interviewee does not feel too intimidated. By asking simple questions first and then gradually asking deeper questions, it would allow the candidate to ease better into the discussion and he/she would feel more open and comfortable in sharing his/her experiences and perspectives. This will provide a more accurate understanding of the genuine capabilities of the candidate, and on assessing the potential fit of the candidate within the company.

Upon reflecting on the entire process, one area I could improve upon is maintaining a smoother flow of conversation during the role-play interview. There were instances where I unintentionally interrupted the candidate's responses or transitioned abruptly between questions. This hindered the natural progression of the interview and might have made the candidate feel a bit disoriented.
In future interviews, I will work on creating a more comfortable and seamless interview environment. This includes allowing candidates to finish his/her thoughts before moving on to the next question, providing clear and concise prompts, and ensuring a more conversational tone throughout the process. By doing so, I believe that it can create a more positive and productive experience for both the candidate and myself.
In conclusion, the experience of conducting a recruitment and interview process for a part-time cafe crew service member was a great learning opportunity. I learned the significance of cultural fit, structured questioning, and making a comfortable atmosphere for the interviewee. I can apply these points in various aspects of my professional and personal life. By improving a smoother flow of the conversation during interviews. I aim to create a more enhanced productiveness and meaningful recruitment and interview process to allow candidates to shine and showcase their true potential.
