Central Valley Physician of The Year Award
Previously known as the Antonio & Margarita-Esperanza Physician of the Year Award
The Central Valley Physician of the Year award was named in honor of the grandparents of the Central Valley Medical Conference (CVMC) organizer, commemorating their enduring legacy of resilience, compassion, and service. This award reflects the values they embodied—selflessness, community dedication, and unwavering commitment to the well-being of others—and seeks to recognize a physician who exemplifies those same principles in service to the Central Valley of California.
The ideal honoree is a physician who excels in patient care, clinical leadership, and community service. They consistently go above and beyond the call of duty, providing culturally sensitive, compassionate, and effective care tailored to the unique challenges of the Central Valley. This physician collaborates with colleagues, healthcare institutions, and community organizations to reduce health disparities and uplift the communities they serve.
The Central Valley Physician of the Year award celebrates not only clinical excellence, but a deep-rooted understanding of the social, cultural, and economic factors that shape healthcare delivery in the region. It is a symbol of gratitude for those who dedicate their lives to healing, advocacy, and service, and who carry forward a legacy of care that honors the past while shaping a better future for the Central Valley.
This award is presented annually at the Central Valley Medical Conference and serves as one of the highest honors bestowed by the Central Valley Medical Association.

This award honors a future physician whose compassion, advocacy, and vision embody the promise of a healthier and more just future for the region.
This award was named in tribute to Jose-Luis and Norma, the parents of the Central Valley Medical Conference organizer, who immigrated to the Central Valley in search of a better life. Their resilience, hard work, and belief in the value of community, education, and service laid the foundation for this recognition. Through this award, we honor their journey and the countless sacrifices they made so future generations could dream bigger and serve with purpose.
Presented at the Annual Central Valley Medical Conference, this award not only recognizes the achievements of an outstanding medical student, but also pays homage to the enduring legacy of immigrant families whose strength and vision continue to shape the future of healthcare in the Central Valley.
