I have been teaching Mandarin Chinese for 3½ years: 2½ at the High School level, and one year at the Middle and Elementary School levels. I was born in Taipei, Taiwan. After emigrating to the United States, I studied English and then earned my Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education and Family Consumer Sciences, from Meredith College in Raleigh, NC. After having a child, I began to work at my son’s school. It was during my time there that I had an opportunity to teach Mandarin Chinese and I discovered my passion; I wanted to teach Mandarin Chinese. I obtained my teaching credentials, was offered an excellent teaching opportunity at Garner Magnet High School, and I have not looked back since.
I love being a Chinese teacher and witnessing my students excitement, curiosity, and desire to learn Mandarin Chinese. I enjoy sharing my Taiwanese and Chinese culture with my students and I incorporate this into my lessons and assignments. I find joy in seeing my students' inspiration to learn Chinese language and culture. I hope my students will maintain this curiosity about Chinese culture throughout their lives.
