Don't panic😉
Let someone on the Troop committee know you have received the email
Troop leaders should have also received the email but the national system has proven to be somewhat unreliable
Let us know that you intend to renew for another year
The troop will make the payment for the registration when you confirm you are renewing
Pay the lump sum fee to the Troop in Dec/Jan as usual
Here is the breakdown for the 2026 fees
Total Annual fee: $205
Membership Registration: $85 (not prorated)
Council Program Fee: $60 (not prorated)
Troop dues: $60 (prorated)
Note:
The Membership Registration fee goes to the National Council and is the fee charged by Scouting America to join the organization.
The Council Program Fee goes to the Crossroads of the West Council and is largely charged to cover insurance costs for our activities.
Dues are charged by the troop to help run our program. This covers most of our weekly activities and monthly campouts. If you join mid year or age out mid year, these Troop dues can be prorated but the Council and National Fees cannot.
If a youth initially registers online, as is typically done, you will pay the combined Registration and Council Program fees online. You will then need to pay the Troop dues separately to the Troop, prorated as indicated on the chart above by the number of months left in the year.
After the initial registration, the combined three fees will be collected by the troop as a single fee at the start of each calendar year and the troop will pay the national and council fees as they come due during the year.
Registration, dues and any other fees can be paid in the following ways:
Bring to Troop activities
We will issue a receipt for any funds received at activities
Mail to Troop Treasurer Scott Maughan
Send checks to
Troop 2 c/o Scott Maughan

For many years, the Boy Scouts of America, now Scouting America, charged an annual registration fee based on the calendar year. These fees were prorated if a person joined mid year or if they aged out of the program during a calendar year.
In 2024, Scouting America changed their fee structure and switched from registration based on the calendar year, to one of registration last for 12 months from whenever a person registers. This meant if a youth registered in June, they would pay for registration again the following June. They also removed the ability to prorate the fees. This meant that if a family had one child who registered in June and another who registered in September, they would have to pay one fee each June and another fee every September.
In 2025, the Crossroads of the West Council which is the local council for the state of Utah added on an additional $60 annual fee for each youth to help cover insurance costs.
For Troop 2, when the schedule change was made, the parents decided they would prefer to pay a single fee once a year. Therefore, the troop collects the combined registration fees and prorated Troop dues at the start of each calendar year. These fees can also be paid in 2 payments if that would be helpful. Just let Scott know to work out a payment plan.
During the year you will receive an email from the Crossroads of the West Council reminding you it is time to renew your registration based on when you initially registered. When you receive the email, contact the troop and let us know who plans to register for another year and we will pay the national and council fees and complete the renewal process for you.
Summer camp fees are separate from fees and dues and we may ask for contributions for specific activities or events that cost more for us to participate. We try to organize fundraising opportunities to help defray some of these costs. We also have a few people willing to provide scholarships for some fees. Please contact Troop committee members if you are interested in applying for a scholarship.
