Administrator Support

This series of training is designed to assist each participant in reflecting on their practices and identifying targeted solutions and strategies to positively impact educational experiences and learning outcomes for African American students.

In each of the following sessions, participants will be provided a tool, guidance, and support to develop, review, or revise (as appropriate) their personal equity action plan used to strategically identify high leverage, personally actionable SMARTE goals that will move the needle for meaningful and sustainable improvement.

Getting to the Root of the Problem

Participants will utilize school/class/grade level data to engage in a root cause analysis conversation. This information will serve as the basis for identifying targeted solutions that work at the classroom or school level, such as the use of community building circles and other tools for relationship building. Participants will examine how to identify and manage personal bias; explore student perspectives and experiences; and consider additional factors, such as quality of academic instruction and continuity of curricula, that influence student experiences and outcomes.

Walking the Talk to Improve Academic Achievement

Participants will learn practical strategies and be provided access to resources to create a culturally responsive learning environment and learn how culturally responsive curricula is tied to academic gains. They will learn key culturally responsive teaching strategies that build student confidence and identity for lifelong learning, increase student engagement and connectedness, and improve academic achievement outcomes for students of color.

Create Dynamic and Engaging Educational Experiences for Black Students

Participants will explore information to better understand the status of education through the lens of African American students and their families today. They will be immersed in conversation on the needs of African American students, what factors make them unique, as well as what they have in common with other students. Participants will learn to identify learning styles, communication patterns, and how to seamlessly incorporate and honor the rich culture and identity of our Black students to create inviting, respectful and supportive learning experiences for all students.

See Me. Hear Me. Know Me.

Participants will focus on strategies to build and strengthen meaningful relationships with students promoting positive mental health and wellness. They will learn the importance of using “Brain Science” to improve classroom learning environments and experiences for students, build students’ self-esteem and self-confidence in ways that can influence everything from attendance to student and family engagement to grades.

Finish Strong!

Participants will do an end of year review of their personal equity action plan. They will examine personal data points from the current semester, not just grades but also other “metrics that matter” to identify, discuss, and celebrate improvement strategies that they have implemented this year that are working for them. We will explore how to use this information to identify specific continued professional growth and improvement opportunities. Participants will also use this information to engage in systems thinking and design lessons and activities that support visioning and planning for the new school year.
