What is School Readiness?
It is when a child is able to cope with formal learning in a school environment on multidimensional levels such as intellectual, emotional, social as well as physical. We look at a child holistically to determine School Maturity.
A school readiness assessment will detect if the child is equipped with the necessary skills to progress into primary school. A child is still early in development therefore early detection for problems is crucial as this will lead to early intervention.
The purpose of assessment in this context is to gain insight into the current level of scholastic & academic functioning of the learner or student and to assist in the journey of self-discovery. A battery of tests is administered to determine one’s potential in terms of aptitude and intelligence, to understand the uniqueness of the person through his or her personality traits and to identify one’s values, interests and emotional difficulties. This information may be used to provide clear career options through career guidance as well as to address learning difficulties dealing with social and emotional adaptation.
