Hoyong Park, Ph.D., is a neuroscientist dedicated to understanding how stress reshapes brain function and contributes to depressive states. He received his B.S. in Biological Sciences from Konkuk University and completed his Ph.D. in Neurophysiology at the same institution in 2019.
His research focuses on how stress exposure induces circuit-level changes in the brain and how these alterations transform normal stress responses into persistent maladaptive states. He is particularly interested in identifying how neural circuits encode stressful experiences and how this encoding shapes subsequent behavioral and emotional outcomes.
A major focus of his work is the lateral habenula (LHb), a key hub for aversive processing and mood regulation. By combining circuit-level electrophysiology, activity-based neuronal labeling, and behavioral analyses, he investigates how LHb-centered networks reorganize in response to stress and how these network dynamics govern brain-wide stress responsiveness.
