Welcoming Remarks
Dear C-CASE Workshop Participants,
We are excited to provide you with a unique opportunity to engage in this hands-on workshop as part of the C-CASE offerings. After test-piloting this workshop last year, we have improved the session for C-CASE 2024 based on participant feedback. One major change requested was to provide instructional materials ahead of the sessions.
During the simulation sessions, we want you to take advantage of experiential learning through "doing" rather than listening to traditional lectures. Consequently, this classroom was set up to give you the necessary pre-simulation instructions to help you make the most of this experience.
This approach is grounded in adult learning theory and self-directed learning approaches. There is growing evidence published by the organizers of this workshop that this approach is effective:

We look forward to your active participation and learning!
Important Notes:Â Â
Please note that the certificate is currently not approved for CME credits. However, with your feedback, we hope to implement this for 2025.
After C-CASE 2024, we kindly ask you to return to this site and complete the "Feedback" surveys. Your feedback will help us improve and grow this type of offering year after year.
This classroom is divided into three sections: Suturing, Bowel Anastomosis, and Cholecystectomy. These sections cover the three skills you will learn. Additionally, you will have a chance to try FLS (Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery), but we will not provide instructions for FLS here.
Section 1: Suturing
Here, under the "Suturing and Hand Surgical Knot Tying Educational Videos," we provide you with a curated video and a PDF of the steps to the simple interrupted suture (in English and French) to successfully complete these skills. We also provided additional educational videos that demonstrate various suturing and knot-tying techniques. You can watch these and try them during the workshops.
Â
The section ends with five error activities. In these videos, we ask you to watch and try to spot the error(s), if there is any.Â
Sections 2 and 3: Bowel Anastomosis and Cholecystectomy
Each section provides you with educational videos and checklists. We will have trained instructors during the workshop to help you with these skills. However, it is encouraged to familiarize yourself with these skills before attending.
The following sub-section provides five suturing videos, where each video may have an error, many or none to spot. Please use the corresponding checklist by each video to indicate the error(s) if there is any.Â
