"Exhibition-social" is a concept originating with the project Crates & Laptops, a one-day presentation in Chicago, on 26 June, 2010. The project's organizers invited artists to bring their personal laptop devices to use as display containers for digitally born artworks. Each participant was provided an elevation constructed of milk crates.
Crates & Laptops participants: Chris Collins, Arend deGruyter-Helfer, Louis Doulas, Daniel Everett, Bea Fremderman, Brian Khek, Jason Lazarus, Evan and Andre Lenox, Duncan Malashock, Nicholas O'Brien, Nik Pence, Tabor Robak, Micah Schippa, Brad Troemel, Sarah Weis
A second exhibition-social took place at Johannes Vogt Gallery, New York in 2014, based on the rules of the children's game "Heads Up Seven Up."
The concept is addressed in the text "B.Y.O.B: The Worldwide Domination of an Exhibition Format," which analyzes Rafaël Rozendaal's project Bring Your Own Beamer.
