Title: Insights into the antibacterial activities of Elaeocarpus floribundus fruit extracts and silver nanoparticles synthesized with the extracts: A comparative in vitro study
Supervisor: Dr. Shyamapada Mandal, Professor, Laboratory of Microbiology & Experimental Medicine, Department of Zoology, University of Gour Banga, Malda-732103, India
Objectives:
1. To explore the prevalence and patterns of antibiotic resistances among the potential pathogenic bacteria (Gram-positive: Bacillus sp., Bacillus cereus, Enterococcus sp., Corynebacterium sp., Staphylococcus aureus and Listeria monocytogenes; and Gram-negative: Acinetobacter baumannii, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumonia, Proteus vulgaris and Pseudomonas aeruginosa), isolated from different sources such as food, clinical samples like throat swab, urine, push etc. in our part of the globe.
2. To unfold the bioactive phytochemicals present in the Elaeocarpus floribundus fruit.
3. To uncover the antioxidative capacity of the test plant extracts.
4. To unravel the broad spectrum antibacterial activity of E. floribundus fruit parts extracts.
5. To explore the capacity of E. floribundus fruit parts extracts in the biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles.
6. To explore the antibacterial activity of synthesized silver nanoparticles against gram-negative and gram-positive pathogenic bacteria.
Title: Bakul Plant (Mimusops elengi L ): in vitro assessment for Antibacterial activity alone and in combination with antibiotics
Supervisor: Dr. Shyamapada Mandal, Professor, Laboratory of Microbiology & Experimental Medicine, Department of Zoology, University of Gour Banga, Malda-732103, India
Objectives:
1. To determine the antibiotic susceptibility of clinical bacterial isolates (Gram-negative: Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumonia, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus vulgaris).
2. To determine the antibacterial activity ethanolic leaf, seed and bark extracts of Mimusops elengi against clinical isolates of E. coli, Pr. vulgaris, K. pneumoniae, and standard isolates of E. coli ATCC 25922, K. pneumoniae MTCC 7407, Ps. aeruginosa ATCC 27853.
3. To determine the combined antibacterial activity of antibiotics and test plant extracts against the bacterial isolates.
4. To determine the nature of interaction between antibiotic and plant extract against the test bacterial isolates.
