About Us

BYU Minecraft is a Minecraft Survival+ server that is open for anyone, student or non-student. Our goal is to create a place where people can come for the many creative possibilities and stay for the great community.

Below you'll find what we aim to achieve as well as the rules that we feel will help get us there.

Purpose

The purpose of the BYU Minecraft Server and its civilization system is to promote community interaction in a world based primarily in vanilla Minecraft.

Mission Statement

The mission of the BYU Minecraft Club is to provide a safe, interactive community of a diverse group of people, centered around the game of Minecraft.

Rules

We encourage diversity in the BYU Minecraft Club. However, as an official BYU server, all members are required to follow the BYU Honor Code.

There are no expectations of skill, talent, group participation, or activity level on the server, though the server is designed to encourage player cooperation. Everyone is welcome! (Unless you get banned or something of course, but that's very rare.) However, there are some other server-specific rules that you will need to follow. These are in place to help protect and build the community.

You DO NOT have to be a BYU student to join the BYU Minecraft server.
Griefing is not allowed.
Harassment is not tolerated.
Malicious/non-consensual PVP counts as harassment.
TNT duping IS allowed.
Do not advertise other Minecraft servers.
Do not re-log on another account if you are banned.
Do not talk about politics or controversial topics.
Feel free to leave suggestions with the server staff.
Admins have the final say.
Lastly, have fun and stay a while!

There may be more rules than are currently listed. If any future conflict arises due to this, the Club leadership will be understanding of the situation and find the best solution.

Server Hardware

The BYU Minecraft server is hosted on a Windows 10 tower on campus in a secure computer closet in the Tanner building. Having the server on campus means that we can upgrade the server's hardware ourselves and don't have to pay for electricity or any monthly subscriptions. As such, we don't intend to migrate to any other hosting service.

Here are the specs for the tower:

CPU: AMD FX(tm)-8350 Eight-Core Processor

GPU: NVIDIA Quadro K420

Memory: 16GB

Disk space: 224GB (we intend to increase this soon)
