Welcome To The Band

BYMB is a traditional style youth band from Dorset.

We are a registered charity.

We are one of the largest and most successful youth marching bands in the South and South West.

We perform in a classic military style in concerts, band tattoos, arena displays, carnivals, parades and ceremonials. This makes us unique in the area.

We play a wide range of music including military marches, classical pieces, pop music and film scores.

We have some of the finest young musicians in the area.

Our rehearsals are on Wednesdays 6.30pm to 9pm at Kinson Community Centre, Pelhams Park and one Sunday afternoon per month at Poole Harbour.

No instrument or previous musical or marching experience is necessary to join.

Experienced young musicians can join BYMB to develop their playing and broaden their experience.

We have the BYMB Academy for beginners - covering instrumental tuition, understanding music and band drill.

Instruments in the Band include brass, woodwind, percussion, snare drums, bell lyres (glockenspiels) and bugles.

We unlock and develop musical ability and teach life long skills.

We provide the instrument, uniform, music, training, performances and the safe place to meet.

The minimum age to join the Band is 8 years old. We provide affordable music tuition. 

BYMB is all about musicianship, discipline, respect, teamwork, challenge, reliability, courage and confidence.

We have a family friendly environment with a variety of musical and social activities.

We are entirely volunteer led, run and supported. We were awarded the prestigious King's Award for Voluntary Service, equivalent to an MBE, in November 2023.

There is a strong emphasis on community involvement.

We perform throughout the UK and abroad.

We are members of TYMBA, Brass Bands England and the National Marching Band.

Safeguarding is embedded into BYMB as a continuously developing practice.

The Friends of BYMB are our support group carrying out fundraising, training, equipment, uniforms, tea & tuck, chaperones, running events and so much more.

We can open up opportunities for a career in the Armed Forces.

Our Band motto is Amici Per Musicam which means Friends Through Music.

And we have lots of fun.
